Do either one of you Boonville guys know Jr. Blackford?  Is that rear end set up a kit or home built? Looks good!

I knew and was related to a James Bickford Jr. who went by JR. He died at 29 a while back though...

The torque link, lower controls arms and mounts, panhard bar, shock mounts, and anti roll assy. were all made. We did buy the lower billet aluminum shock mounts. I have a friend that works at a custom sheet metal facility and any bracket I can mock up out of cardboard he can cut out with a water jet machine.
Aren't friends great!

No kit or drawing.........Just a lot of work

The billet battery mount is in and the new aluminum fuel cell is mounted.

Mocked up the convertible top to see how much the new wheel tubs would need to me modified for the top to lower all the way.

Cut the necessary ammount out of the wheel houses and fabricated a new top for them that matched the angle of the top when lowered

The new piece looks much better than the factory "sledge hammer" job that was on the car originally.

Now to the new floorpans

Thanks,
Brent

I was wondering what you were going to do with the factory flat spot on the wheel well, now I know. I was also wondering what you did with the trunk hinge and hardware. Did you just move it in a bit when you widened the wheel well? Mine is tacked right to the factory wheel well,I assume yours was to? Also, did you check out the front end kit from fat man fab? Pricey, but trick as hell.

Brent, awesome job!...  couple questions, why did you choose a three piece trunk floor verses the one piece that have the drop downs included?  I have to do similar to my 66 coupe, and would like to get some opinions.  Also, looks like you used a lap weld on the quarters, right?  did you recess the original skin before tacking in the new quarter?    Last, the mini-tubs look great!  looks like you cut back the sheetmetal an inch or two, and then replaced with the widened tubs, correct?  besides the cutting for fit, was there any unexpected mods necessary to accomodate the tubs?   That baby's gonna look incredible when it's done.    you takin a vote on paint color?  or have you already decided?

Groho,
No color picked yet. White interior. Open for suggestions and ideas

The one piece trunk floor would not work with the rear suspension and fuel cell I have. The piece in front of the fuel cell will be a trip to make as the shock crossmember and the anti-roll assy extend above the stock floor.

Yes, the quarters are lap welded and the skins were flush mounted with a step tool.

I purchased the new inner and outer wheel houses seperate so I could add to them and then weld them in the car. No problems at all.

Marc,
I cut the hinge mounts from the wheel houses but left them attached at the top. After the tubs were finished I fabricated a new base to attach to the stock hinge mounts to the tubs. The width is stock and the hinge location is stock.

Tarafied1, thanks!!

Brent

BB427 am i seeing that correctly or did you cut 1" below the top of the old quarter and weld in a new quarter all the way around? butt weld? or did you lap the new quarter underneath the old quarter?

All of the holes in the firewall are welded shut and smoothed. I want it smooth but I wanted to retain the stock shape.
Rolled and welded the cowl/firewall lip and smoothed. Now one smooth lip instead of three.

Been a while for an update due to the front suspension s.n.a.f.u. The Heidt's suspension for a '66 Mustang won't allow for the ride height I wanted nor will it allow for a tire as wide as I wanted so......
The front frame was raised
the cross member halved and narrowed
the rack and pinion was cut and narrowed
the oil pan was shortened and the pan notch made deeper
custom motor mounts and trans mount
new front floor pans
new front torque boxes welded to steel plated inner rockers

Everything is ok now so on to the steering and making some new inner fenders to cover up the suspension. Starting to resemble a car again.

Trunk floor and fuel cell are finishedThe motor and trans are now installed. Had to make some custom mounts using tubing and energy systems urethane bushings. The new Wilwood master cylinder is attached to the factory pedal assy. and actually used the stock mounting holes.  Brent
