Default Is changing the redline safe?

I was playing around with my SCT tuner today and saw where I could change my redline...What would be a safe RPM to change my stock bottom end to? 6300-6700...anyone with any input?

The cars fall pretty flat on their face just after redline (around the RPM cuttoff). You won't get any "additional" horse power. You'll just run the risk of killing your car faster by pushing harder. Unless you upgrade your internals to handle higher RPM's it's not worth it.

Thanks for the input...I know I am making max HP around 6K so I thought I would raise the limiter to 6200 in an attempt to pull through the gears faster...I dont think that 200 RPMs would hurt the engine, but thats why I am asking for input

I am always intrigued by questions of upper RPM range and how high some of you go. I personally NEVER run my car over 5000. I suppose I could easily get away with it, but see no need to. I get nervous running up there as the risk may be relatively low, the cost of mis-calculation would be high. If I always plan to shift at 5000 and unknowingly push higher, I have a more forgiving "cushion" of RPM's in which to deal.

Some will set it at 6,200 rpm so that the rev limiter doesn't kick in if you run it up to factory redline. Whatever you set it at doesn't mean that you have to get to it.

I recommend 6500 redline for the 281 3V.
