I'd rather have that 5.0 motor thrown in and supercharged. 400hp n/a and 50-100lbs lighter than the 500's motor. Don't get me wrong, they're gorgeous cars, but jesus...

I tried talking him out of buying the GT500. I told him to get an old fastback and make it darn near unstreetable, Just a badass Street Machine.. Since he doesnt drive it anyway.. What is the difference? He didnt agree...Oh well.. Either way, it is a great car and I am jealous.

200 miles after 6 months!!!! The guy doesn't deserve it. Buying that car is like marriage. You do it because you wanna drive it hard and have it handy.

My buddy has a GT500, I have driven it once, (he lives back in San Diego) I drove it hard, (somebody needs to, he only has 200 miles on it and it is 6 months old) I have friends that have some money, I have driven everything from Ferrari 360, Gallardo, and a Bentley...Then I have to jump back in my Quad Cab Dodge...Oh yah, it normally feels like a pig, but after driving one of those, It is like I drive a Cement Truck..
wow alot of **** logic in this thread... the 5.4 has alot more potential than any of the roushes, and the only saleen that compares is the extreme which actually costs more. The 5.4 can handle lots of power....LOTS. Whoever said, "my dad has a 5.7 charger" or whatever... do you realize the 5.7l chargers are a good 2 seconds slower in the quarter than a gt500...? and a blown 5.4 >>>>>>>>>> N/A 5.7
Thanks 8cd03gro for trying to explain some of the finer points of what this car has to offer to the general public . I can see why the majority of Shelby GT500 owners stay with their kind. Their will always be 1 or 2 jerkoffs bagging on any Mustang that doesn't look like, smell like, or $h!t like their's WTF.
Thanks, I think...? To answer your question/comment about my inflated ego, I wanted to let you know that the dealer was kind enough to throw it in when I purchased the Shelby! I was not lucky as your brother to get a fair price on the car as I got it a little over a year ago (3rd on in CA at the time) and I paid for the "priveledge". I hope your brother (and you) have as many great experiences in his GT500 as my 18- year old son and I have had in mine.
It's a lot of fun to drive and more fun to see how the 5.4 loves simple (but expensive) mods.

Never be feel bad to drive a mustang, the haters hate us for a reason! I financed for my son (on the easy payment family program...) a Whipple 03' Term that puts down over 600 RWHP and gives the Shelby a good run from a 60 roll, and is really-really fun to drive.

I've got 6k on the odometer and plan on enjoying mine every weekend that I don't have it in pieces in my garage! Buy it, drive it, race it, FIX IT, repeat!

Hey GT500OC, is your stang parked in the Saleen factory in Irvine? It looks like it is.
Congrats on driving the GT500 though. I know what you mean about feeling bad after driving them. A few days ago I drove a 1300hp El Camino, 900hp Jeep, and an 03' Cobra. Needless to say it sucked when I had to drive home in my V6 Explorer lol.

Could you guys imagine what the Super snake is going to be like. 600hp warrantied and 725 un warrantied. those are going to be some fast babies. Its hard to get a 4.6 up to that hp.
Agreed, I can appreciate any car that is worthy of praise and any real "car guy" feels the same. Some people just wake up angry and envious and would SH*T their shorts if they ever REALLY rode in (much less drive) a true 180+MPH, 800+ HP car, not just buying into the Steve Saleen hype and really cool marketing (and stickers)...Except if your counting the video game that they recieved from their parents for X-Mas!

The self proclaimed expert is Tungstenstang, that feels that his Dad's monster 5.7 Charger is going to thump a 10-second, 6-point roll caged Shelby with 749 RWTQ! I wish he would take a roadtrip to So Cal so I can thump his As* at whatever type of track he chooses EVERY time, everywhere, everyday. That is if he's not grounded by the same dad for "borrowing" the car without permission!

The Saleen has a 4.6 3V and the GT500 has a 5.4 4V (the same motor in the GT, supercar), they are not even on the same planet when it comes to torque.
Oh, and I forgot to add the best part, it's a Shelby GT500!
GT500OC
you have a beautiful car..I truly love it and the sick numbers you are putting down....was your inflated ego and elitest complex extra?....glad to see my brother who just bought his gt500 for $2500 over MSRP (in Knoxville Tn. ) ......didnt get that ego with his purchase....his car is as beautiful as well...going to go an visit him this summer and take it for a ride,,,then we are both going to the track..cant wait.....

WOW the GT500 has a 5.4! my dad has the charger 5.7 and i can kick its ass, stock. like i said earlier the saleen s/c and stage 3 are as impressive as the gt500 only they handle better! and no **** its a gt500 you know that best because you overpaid about 10k on it.
You are truly ignorant... You are comparing a N/A 2v OHV motor to a blown 4v DOHC, they are not even in the same league.

My father and I will both be willing to take our "slow" mustangs and rape your 06 Roush or your dad's "HEMI" on any track, road course, autoX, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, roll race or a old fashioned arm drop on the street.
Short of a built motor, ported heads, cams, turbo set-up, built trans, and a built rear you couldn't even hold a candle to my fathers Shelby, if you think anything to the contrary you are delusional

Just so you guys know GT500OC is my Dad and I was the one that convinced him to go onto the forums, I told him that their is/was a wealth of knowledge here and a good group of car guys to shoot the sh*t with.
Please don't prove me wrong with this childish bickering, I just had to shut up tungstenstang because I can see him becoming a,

That El camino must have been one hell of a ride...
The picture in my post was taken at the Cars and Coffee event that is held every Saturday at PAG in Irvine from about 6:00 am - 9:00 am.

The GT500 is a flat out sexy machine. You have to realize that it hasn't been out all that long so people aren't seeing many modded 5.4 4v's around yet. I love seeing how a simple CAI/tune on these cars really wake them up. They are seeming to respond very well to mods. I look forward to seeing more in the future that drive their cars to the track and lay down the ET's. Then the haters will have no legs to stand on.
