Leaking T-56 seals? - 8/8/2007 10:10:31 AM

Recently I noticed very black oil splatter inside my bell housing, as I shine a flashlight through the hole where the clutch fork comes out.  It's not much, however it produces a few drips on the ground after driving the car.  I'm running a 5.0 w/EFI and supercharger in a 1965 Fastback, my trany is a T-56.  Both the engine and trany have under 3K miles.  I checked the fluid in the trany; its clean.  The engine oil is also new.

Can I assume this leak is coming past a broken/defective seal (either from the trany or engine)?  And that the reason it's black is that the oil is running over dirt/grime and getting dirty when it drips on the ground?

This happened a day after I drove the car at a road race track, in temps exceeding 110 degrees.  When the car hit 240 degrees, I pulled off the track.  The car never boiled over.

I suspect that the heat of the day, the track and my engine possibly ruined some seals in the trany.  Any thoughts, opinions or advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike
