Default Weatherstripping/Gasket

I am trying to replace the weatherstripping for my trunk lid. I scraped off all the old nonsense and made sure that it was just the bare metal. I cannot seem to be able to get the stripping lined up in the right place, it keeps hitting and not allowing the lid to close. Does anyone have any advice as to how to line it up so that it will work properly?
66 mustang coupe if that helps at all and I am using the 3M weatherstrip adhesive.

Default RE: Weatherstripping/Gasket

The new rubber has not been compressed yet until you close the lid and let her set for a few days. Give it some more time to seat.
