check the odometer, check for rust on the undercarriage, ask if it has any aftermarket parts and what, has it been in an accident, ask for paper records, check and see if the top is molded or torn. thats all i can think of right now.

33K on odometer (accurate)
only mods are Eibach springs and a K & M air filter.
Comes with an extra set of wheels.. (R type)
Haven't checked out the top yet but what does a new top cost if required?
Original owner.. stored winters -
I decided I needed a fun car with some creature comforts- like a heater and a top....etc...

how much does he want for it?

I've seen the car before but it's probably been three months ago. Didn't pay much attention to it other than it was a Cobra SVT and that made an impression.
I wasn't in the market at the time. His wife refers to the car as "His baby".

kelleybluebook.com says 10,725 so offer him 11,250 and see what he says.

Let's see what happens tomorrow... With any luck I'll buy the car and I'll see if he can store it where it sets until spring.
I've been chasing down all the things that can be done to that engine and it looks like it would be a ball playing with it...
Most of the upgrades and mods are under the hood and I'm sure my wife doesn't look there.

I've seen these cars advertised as a convertible/hardtop.. It appears that the car can be fitted with a removable hartop... I've also seen some of these cars with a rollbar that seems to be a factory install. Is the rollbar an aftermarket item or only when ordered at original delivery?

If the paint is great and the top very good... I probably won't deal. 12K seems fair...
I mentioned the extra wheels (R's)friend and he's sitting on over 100 Panoz 17X9's that will fit with no modification... Panoz when to an 18" wheel on all their cars.

Well, that didn't go so well....Car was amazing... not a chip or dent. Convertible top was almost perfect.. 35K on odometer...
I offered 11K on a 12K ask and bumped it up to 11.5K
HE CAN'T DECIDE IF HE WANTS TO SELL THE CAR... WTF.

He didn't counter to the offer so I have to wait until next week to see if he decides to sell...

I found a new 04 Cobra Convertible in Ohio that can be shipped to the local dealer for 33K ... Triple black I think... That's another option....

Bottom line is that I'm on hold until next week sometime...

That sucks. Call him and tell him to either decide yes now, and you will buy it, or you will go to a dealer and get a new cobra w/ more hp, better handling, and ford will back it. Don't play those games with people. Anyways welcome to th forums. Have fun.

If I were in your spot, even tho I don't know your financial situation or anything like that, that is a sweet deal and would take the Cobra.

Ragtop..

Which car?... they're both Cobras. I suspect you're refering to the 04.

I'm eligible for the A plan and they have a 3K allowance on top of that.

I think if the 96 comes through I'd be very happy with that. Lots of giggles for a third of the money.. I'll sort it out this week...
Thanks

al

Yea the 04 cobra is what I was referring to, that is a very nice deal for a very nice car. Good luck w/ whatever you may choose tho.

I had a 96 Cobra vert before my 03 Cobra. Night and day difference, but you'll think you've got a fast car with the 96 if you don't ever drive the 03. Here is a list of mods you should think of with the '96 to make it more fun...

-Change the exhaust
-add a CAI
-swap out the rear gears to 3.73's or 4.10s
-Add the Saleen styling bar for looks, it really adds to look of your car (about 400-500) if you do the labor yourself

These are the "cheaper" mods to do. You can of course add some real power adders such as a s/c, those cars are very receptive to power adders.

Good luck with your decision! The 96 does look nice with the curves, if your into that. I do like the hood with it's nostrils.

Yep, missed it... Still haven't heard back on the 96. Going to send out for the Pin # for the A plan and start dealing for the 04

AllVenom,
I was just looking for a quicker than average car with the potential to push the HP as I went. If I buy the 96 I can keep my other toy but if I step up to the 04 I've gotta sell it to cover the increased cost. I swear that shopping these things is half the fun

Very pretty car. Not the Mustang Cobra that I wanted but then I already have one what with the FIA 289..Unique... Got room for both of the cars on one side of the garage.. Dealer will store it indoors until spring...

Cograt's on your purchase, and welcome to the forums. I just joined recently, since I bought my 05 GT Prem. 5spd. redfire coupe. It has been a blast. She's (named her Lil Red) my first stick car in several years. If my interest holds, I may look for a blown SVT in the next year myself. I still need to sell my Harley this Spring/Summer. The bad drivers and bad roads here around Indianapolis, IN, have taken a lot of the fun out of two wheel "hot rodding" for me.

Enjoy the forum !!
