Tonight at 1am  me and a friend were leaving his girlfriends house. I stop at the stop sign, and I must have cut the turn too close. There was a dip in the curb for the people walking on to the sidewalk which is what I must have ran on. Also, on the curb there is a rut about an inch high that would prevent my wheel from turning and guiding it on its on course. So what happened: I went up the side of the curb because I cut the turn too close, the rut caught my right wheel and wouldn't let me off even though it all happened so quickly. Then my front bumper hit the fire hydrant at 10mph MAX, probably 5mph, but here's the problem. THE MOTHER F**KING AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I don't know for sure, but I really really doubt the airbags deploy at an accident of less than 10mph. Hell, my bumper doesn't even have a scratch/dent on it except for where it was ripped out from its spot. Both bags deployed too. I thought I could drive it seeing as though there was no actual damage, but it turns out my wheel was flat.

Don't worry, we are both safe...for some reason the airbags didn't hurt? Which is actually due to the fact that we weren't going fast enough to even hit the bags when we hit the hydrant. So I'm really wondering, why did my bags deploy? And can I get Ford to fix this because from what I can assume, 10mph isn't enough to make both airbags deploy.

Pics

I know what you're thinking..well you should be thinking... is that all?

Don't bother asking for parts. I'll have it fixed, Ford can suck my left nut. The only other damage is on the door, which sucks because its quarter panel and door and its like a dent/scuff marks. The light is fine, not broken, still works. Bumper, other than the paint chips it had already, it looks fine just needs to be repositioned. Door and quarter panel are..eh, I can live with it but I'd rather not. The only real problem I have are the airbags and replacing it. My dad says it'll cost a grand, but he exaggerates...I hope. Tell me if the airbags should have deployed and give me plausible reasons for the airbags deploying. Cause if Ford messed up, I'm not paying for their ****ty mistake.

Well when you hit something at 5mph you kinda don't get hurt lol

I'm kinda pissed how I've seen people completely wreck and their bags don't deploy. Some lady hit my mom in the rain and completely smashed her front up BAD. No airbags deployed either.

From what I heard resetting the airbags is pretty expensive and the Ford Dealer is last place Id go to. Everything they do costs a arm and a leg.

I really feel like being done with Ford after tonight. Also, Wiki says airbags cost the car company's $100 a piece and they sell them for $500.

That's wierd how the bags went off. Probably just a freak accident, cause hitting something at 5 mph is like a big dude kicking the car really hard, lol.

However, I think that whenever the airbags are deployed in any car, it has to have something done to the title, thus reducing the resale value substantially. I think.

I meant Im glad those airbags didn't hurt you. I know sometimes they do more
damage when they deploy in wrecks. Although my Aunt was in a serious wreck
last week. She was diving a Mariner and a drunk driver was driving fast and hit a truck
and then a car and then hit her vehichle head on killing her friend and she is in ICU in
critical condition. It was aweful. Her airbag saved her. The seatbelt also saved her but did alot
of damage. When the truck hit her, she went airbourne and compacted her truck.
She starting showing improvement 2 days ago and if all goes well, she will have a long
recovery, but eventually in time be okay.

The airbags will go off if the sensors sense the slightest

That's really stupid, because I've seen people completely wreck their front end and not even have their airbags deploy. I don't even have a scratch on mine!

I have work today, but my dad went to go change the tire on the car to see if its driveable.

And Cindy I'm glad to hear your aunt is doing alright.

+1, my dumbass has ran over a guy wire in the rain like a week after i first got my liscense, slammed the post of my chain link fence UNDER the car, and ran over a stump all with the same damn bumper and the air bags didn't ever come out... all that makes me look like a ****ty driver, but it was b/c i was young and very immature

My dad thinks a tie rod is broken, which seems reasonable because when the left wheel is straight the right wheel points outward. I have a serious doubt that I bent the frame/axle at all since I wasn't going that fast. And tie rods aren't nearly as strong as the axle. My neighbor owns a shop so he may be able to get it fixed under warranty, also my dad's uncle is a body and fender guy so he may be able to bang the dent on the door back and fill it with body putty for a pretty low cost. Also, I'm probably going to order the airbags off of MPS auto salvage, they have the pairs for $650 each. If that $650 covers everything I need with the airbags I'll be looking at $1000 to fix everything. Hopefully no more.

Owell... that still stucks.  I know that if I had been driven according to the conditions, nothing would have ever happended.  The only thing other than the bumper that got really messed up, was a very, very slight bend in the radiator support.  Only cosmetic and who looks under there anyways . Hope you get everything worked out man. Now only if i can get my transmission fixed.... I'm taking it to the doctor tomorrow and we''ll see what the diagnosis is, hopefully nothing major.  For those who are curious, I keep ya'll posted tomorrow.

you title can become salvaged if the insurance company declairs the car totaled but other than that title should be good you should just cut out the air bags and order replacement covers and not run air bags and you will need to hot wire the car to think theirs bags in even though theirs not and just tell the owner if u do sell it that the car doesnt have air bags and get him to sign a paper saying that he understands that the vehicle doesnt have them and you are not responsible

Well my parents want me to have airbags. I went and looked at the car today, took pics. The quarter panel and the door looks f**ked.

Its got a hole from the part of the hydrant that the fire company unbolts.

The wheels are pretty thrashed. Luckily I was buying new ones anyway.

And the bumper.

This is the right wheel.

Now the left wheel, and mind you, the wheel was not turned at all in between photos. The right wheel is that messed up.

Suspension is cool and all, but I think a tie rod is broken that's why the one wheel is bent.

Salvage.. I see tons of these things in the salvage yards with damage that would cost you $100 to fix. I know over here if the airbags deploy its automatic salvage I think and you lose all waranty if you have any. Its the dealers way of getting out of it. If the suspension is also messed up along with that bad tear on the side it probably would get the salvage cerificate. They might  rape you to repair that if they do.
