I'm looking at ordering Bullitt Rims (black with a chrome lip) for my 06 Mustang and I live in Edmonton Canada. The winters are bad with a lot of snow and the roads are salted religously. I know salt kills chrome but here is my question:

I'd like to order all season tires all around for my car when I get my rims so that I can't keep my bullitts on all year instead of swapping them with the beastly stockers for 8 months out of the year. I only put on about 10-15000 km's every year because I am a student and my car is parked a lot. How bad would the chrome deteriorate if I washed my car daily and kept care of the chrome on the rims during the winter? And is there any kind of product I could use to help protect the rims during the winter time? Thanks.

Keeping your wheels waxed and cleaned would be about all you can do.   I don't think there would be anything you can do to prevent them from deteriorating.

But how quickly would it actually speed up the deterioration of the rim? If it is quite damaging, then I'll have to keep my stockers for the winter (which Id rather not do if possible). Keep in mind, they will be kept extremely clean after every rare trip around the city.

You will be lucky to have it last one season if it is subject to salt. Chrome will begin to pit with just a little contact with salt.

Thanks for the help. Looks like I'll be keeping the stockers for winter time and I'm ordering strictly summer tires now. If you can Colin, please help me with my newest post.
