Default RE: would this intake need a tune?

I dont think that one needs a tune, but you will probably still be runing a bit lean. Any intake is better with a tune. IMO, if your not looking to get a tune, just get a K&N drop in filter for now if you want to do something.

I got my MMR intake because it didn't require a tune back when I first got my car. I wasn't part of these forums back then and now that I have a tune, I wish I had waited and got the C&L/tune package.

Default RE: would this intake need a tune?

i simply bought my intake w/ tuner before C&L came out for 4.0. i'm sure the aFe is fine without tune (shouldn't require one, look at their site) but a tune will make it even better. i wouldn't bother with a drop-in. sure it saves you money since you dont have to replace it but i think its intended for those who don't want to mod or just want slightly better throttle response. i used to have a drop-in k&n in my 4banger ranger but just recently bought a k&n cone filter from their intake kit and rigged up my own custom intake. the difference in throttle response is big. i can even notice it pulling harder. i'm sure the same would happen with our 4.0 stangs.
