I got 3.73 in my stang friday. Just as soon as i paid the man, it started raining. I was so pissed. It dried up this afternoon, so i took it for a spin. First gear seemed like no change(already quick) second gear was a definate improvement. Third and fourth were more than i expected. Im very happy with the improvement. In all i paid 386 w/ install, and it was worth every penny. Would definatley reccomend
some idiot wanted like 700.00 to install gears, there is no way in hell... im trying to find more shops that will do it for a lot less...there is no way i would pay that much

cheapest place around here is excessive and they do it for $500 for the gears and install. they're really good though and will have you out of there in an hour or even less. they were done with mine in an hour and that was while talking to people and walking away for a bit. they put my X on too, but they didn't charge me for it since i bought gears, X, and got my speedo calibrated. i guess paying in ca$h helped too.
If you are going to drag your car all the time, 4.10's are fine. For more of a daily driver, 3.73's are better. I know some who even opted for 3.55's for road or rally racing. One thing you definitely have to do regardless of what gears you choose is recalibrate your speedometer. '98 and before is a matter of a 23 tooth gear but '99 and above are electronic and need to be electronically recalibrated. Otherwise you will be reading 80 mph when you are only going 50! Keep in mind 4.10's are a lot of gear if you aren't used to that much kick in the ass all at once. Also don't forget that when you are constantly twisting your engine to high rpm's all the time, which 4.10's will definitely do, something can and eventually will go snap, crackle or pop! Just a fact of life. Click on this link and then hit "This must have hurt a little" http://64.177.72.121/forums/showthread.php?t=10010
Whatever your decision, enjoy your new ride. Gears are a blast for sure. Oh ya, don't screw around with any new gears except Ford Racing....the best!
how much of a difference, and what is the difference between 3.73 and 3.55 gears, I have a 01 daily driver, never had a car with gears and am wondering what the best way to go as far as gears go. I am not going to be doing a lot of drag raceing (except when i get next to someone at a light ) and will do some highway driveing

get 3.73s. they seem to be working out just dandy for daily driving. despite having to shift sooner. you probably wouldn't notice much of a difference with 3.55s.
question, I am going to be changing the gears in my car 36,000 miles on it, should i replace the bearings when i do the gears or just re-use the stock ones on the car?

At first I was leaning towards getting 4.10s put in, but after hearing some guys talk about them I'm probably gonna go with 3.73s. From what I've heard 4.10s will just make you spin your tires if you don't have good traction. I've got performance tires but I don't wanna get burned in a race off the line cause I didn't go with 3.73s.

My car has 45k miles. I replaced all bearings. I feel alot better now that its done.
I got a quote from a decent shop today , but i have a feeling it was too high,
He said about 200 for install, thats labor, and the sort, 100 for new bearings, or rings or somthing,
then like my 200 ish for gears and like, whatever 10 bucks for some bottle of something, thats like, around 500,, is that accurate or high?
and waht are the bearing, rings, and wahtever,, especially since my car has just over 50K
im not mechanical, but i would like to know what is going on... He also said that i should expect a whine from the rear end, nothing major, just more than i have with my stock 2.73's.... anyone know whats up?
thanks

Hopefully running by the weekend. Gonna run her good too!
Well damnit all, now i can't decide on 3.73s or 4.10s after reading this lol. oh and hows this affect your warranty, is a kinda like a "if a problem happens and has to do with the gears you pay for it" kind of thing? I figure it is because thats how they were with my last car. Also, 3.73s or 4.10s on an 05 GT, what do u all think?

Honestly man, I don't know about the 05. Haven't done enough research on them yet to tell you that. They may have a differen't transmission ratio, but I still think you would be ok with 4.10's. I'm sure that somebody with a little more knowledge on them will chime in here in a bit.
On the warranty part, I had my gears installed at the dealership. (It's good to know people) On the ticket it says that the tech was checking out a leak.
O and BTW. GO 4.10's
