View Full Version : What do you guys do to pay for your mods?

I've been working for $6.50 for a few months now, and that's absolute crap. I was just wondering what you all do to pay for your mods, I see a lot of you guys do stuff like rear end build up, exhaust, body work, UDP, CAI, wheels. That stuff isn't cheap, so what do you all do to pay for your mods?

Right now I have an exhaust and some vinyls on the back, I'd have more mods I just can't pay afford it with my job. BUT good news for me, the Dodge (I know, this is a FORD Mustang forum) dealership just called me this morning and the guy was asking when I can start working. He said I'll start at $8 and move up to $9 in a month. When school starts I'll be working 30 hour weeks, so I'll have some mods going. I'm just wondering how you all are doing.

Please don't move this to general, there aren't many comments there. And if you're like 40 years old with a career and a large savings account, its pretty obvious how you pay for your mods. This is mainly for the kids in school to talk about how they pay for everything.

I really don't know. Ask the girlfriend. She gets mad that I never buy HER anything, and I spend all my money on the car :D.

I buy little things in bunches. Then one big purchase (like new amps I'm getting soon). Look around the For Sale section. I get a lot of stuff used. Or I will buy the part, whatever it is, then just throw it in the garage until I have time to install it or money to take it to get installed, especially if it is an awesome deal I just can't pass up.

Now wouldn't that be nice!

I'm 18 and well believe it or not i'm actually goin to have more money when i start goin to school in the fall i think. I pretty much have everything paid for through scholarships :D and since I did get those scholarships and my parents don't have to help me withe tuition etc. they're going to pay for my housing for the year! So i can just save my money and start the mods (after I get some rims and tires [:@])

I am 20, and I make $16 an hour working at best buy, and I am also a full time student which makes it even harder to save and work more hours. I have two bank accounts, one I use to pay the bills and the other is my savings account. That way I always save money, and when something that I want to buy comes up, I have the money to buy it....

Hmm.......I currently make $12.19 with only gas, insurance, repairs, and a small college loan payment I'm starting on early, needless to say, I have a lot to play with.[8D]

I get all most stuff mostly from
www.mustangsunlimited.com (http://www.mustangsunlimited.com) but other sites I buy from include:
www.mgw.ltd.com (http://www.mgw.ltd.com)
www.uprproducts.com (http://www.uprproducts.com)
www.autobadges.com (http://www.autobadges.com)
www.americanmuscle.com (http://www.americanmuscle.com)
www.hosetechniques.com (http://www.hosetechniques.com)

as well as maybe one or two others. I am moded well enough that I can manage to pull off sponsorship based discounts, but generally speaking I just try to find the cheapest site and go with them.

I know what you mean. When you're 18 you can work as a waiter and they make bank off tips. My one friend brings home $100 a night in tips. That's in just a 6 hour shift.

I'm 25 and going into my first year as a senior in college (I hope to get my b.s. in mech engineering within 2 more years), but I make crap at my job. Only $11/hr....so after rent, gas, and bills, I only have like $300 left a month. Most of that is going out with friends and eating. But I usually try to spend $100 a month on things I want, for the last 6 weeks, every little bit I've been saving has been going into my dream of nitrous. Ebay helps out a lot, you'd be surprised how much stuff you have and don't use that other people will want. Other than that, I usually wait till tax time and my birthday to get good things.

17, working to save up enough to buy another car with 7.93/hr at the movie theatre (get movies for free which saves me a load of cash on dates)and over 3000 in the bank. Every pay check goes straight into my bank. If im hungry or want some food thats not around the house i gotta scrounge up some change and go buy a power bar or some sunflower seeds and a bottle of water... I also work side jobs for a family friend who own a Tree and Landscape service.. Right now im painting their deck and doing yard work for em. Just got done running errands for em and watching their house while they were in Europe for 2 weeks and got paid $220 for driving their company car, getting their mail and delivering checks to the bank.. which took less than an hour so im not complaining. Plus i got 200 for doing like 5 hours of painting but they paid me for 25 hours which is nice lol... I get money but its never in my pockets.

Hmm, well my first mods were paid for with my first summer job money that I had saved for college... My parents wanted me to experience manual labor and I worked in a shed where they packaged potatos over the summer... Really made me sure I was going to college and never doing a job like that again, haha. This next wave of mods I've purchased started with Graduation money and the remainder of my savings plus this summer I'm bagging groceries at $7.75/hr... I've really learned how much trouble a credit card can get you in this summer, haha, it's so convenient and easy just to type in a number and get stuff! Until you get the bill at the end of the month... Took some playing around with but I got the bill paid off within the month, so it's all good! Hoping to keep working in college though and have all my college tuition and such taken care of so money should be going into some savings and some into my car(/new car fund?) We'll see!

pfft. I live in tx, and I make $14.50 an hour. I'm a baseball umpire, so i stand there and put a ball in a machine and call kids out or safe, and I make 15 bucks a game. They're like 8 year olds, so its super easy. My paycheck at the end of the season was 1400 bucks, and thats for 3 months of working, for like 3 days a week. I would have made more, but it freaking rained every day for a month just about, so that screwed me over.

I'm starting a 2nd job on tuesday. My friensd dad owns a restaurant here, and hes gonna let me wait tables and set my own schedule. We make like 2.30/hr, but usually you make about 7 bucks a table at 15% tips. You keep your own tips as well, no pooling BS. He said they do like 4 hour shifts, and that if you work you can easily make 40 bucks a night in tips. I plan to work practically every day until school startsin a month so I can earn some damn money.

I don't go for minimum wage jobs. I find jobs that pay well. I don't pay taxes either. I don't think I earn enough, and my employers dont give the w2 or whatever it is, so i just assume I dont have to pay taxes. I don't think the IRS is gonna come after a kid who makes like 2 grand a year. THat would be my taxable pay. Tips are non taxable I'm pretty sure.

I don't really mod my car though. I pay for gas and insurance, and I"ve got 3 grand in my bank account.

You know how I keep my money? No girlfriend. I hang out with girls, but theres no reason to get serious, we're not gonna get married, and I'm not gonna risk gettin' some while I'm still under my parents control until I turn 18 in a year and a half. I'll wait till college when I can do whatever the **** I want.

Wash cars etc. Once I turn like 19 or 20 cant remember, they could possibly hire me as a dealer. Last years football captain and quarterbacks dad is the Manager of the dealership and he knows me, he let me test drive the S197 Gt last time i was there. Said that if no one bought it and it was finished i could possibly drive the 2006 Roush GT theyve got in detailing.

I'm more of a PowerBall fan, myself. I'm gonna wait till it gets up around $250, maybe $300 million, then I'll win it. No sense in being a pussy and only winning the $100 million one, you know?

I'd rather save the money I'd spend on lottery throughout my lifetime, put a few bucks in a savings account every week or a mutual fund, and have a good chunk of money. By the time all the interest compounds after 40 years, you'd have like 150k. Don't remeber the exact numbers, but a financial guy on the radio took the average a person spends on lottery and figured how much youd make if you put it into a mutual fund for 40 years and you'd have like 150k. hmm, a guaranteed 150 grand, or a 1 in 58 million shot at 100mil.

how can you figure out the "average" a person spends on lottery? some people spend like $5/month on just a single ticket, others spend $40/week. that's a huge gap to find an average at.

ok, so pick a number in the middle. say 20 bucks a week. there you go, now you've got a number to go off of. Its an approximate average. It wasn't so much to show how much you could earn, just the fact that you can put your money into an account, and get a guaranteed return instead of just tossing it away (I hate to break it to you, but 1:58,000,000 is pretty much tossing your money away).

I used to work at a convience store, and we sold scratch cards, CT lotto tickets, daily numbers, and powerball. There was such of variety of people who played the lotto. Some people would occasionally buy a powerball ticket or two if it was a good amount of prize money. What's one or two bucks for a shot at $200 million, ya know? Then there were the older guys who came in ever morning and played the mid day and nightly numbers. They usually played the same numbers everyday. They spent about $5 a day, which is really what the average smoker spends on ciggarettes, so that isn't too bad. Then there were people who would spend upwards of $20 on scratch tickets a day. There was one lady who came in every morning and chose one game (usually a $10 ticket) and played it until she won. Sometimes she came out ahead, but usually not. But the best was this old guy (he had to be like 120 years old, lol) who came in everyday without fail and consistently bought entire packs of $20 and $30 tickets. Now a pack of tickets of that price has 25 tickets in there. And there's always a winner in a pack. But he would lose so much money getting to the winner. The lottery is really a nasty thing to get addicted to.

Yeah but how long have u been working there compared to them?

I worked at a grocery store bagging once.. hurt my knees.. going from football practice to work during the summer.. its hard enough on my kneesbeing a 5'8" 190lb defensive end, but standing around for 4-5 hour shifts and 2 15 min breaks... thats why i left for target where i got 8 dollars and earned myself a 230 BBK intake for my mustang... AND 1000+ dollars in repairs after my radiator cracked.. my thermostat and blinker switch went to crap and i needed new brake pads kuz they hadnt been changed since god knew when... Now i work at the theatre, i make 7.93 like i said, get free movies which is a plus for dates, working at the theatre we get 10% off our meals at red robins next door to the theatre which is another deal for dates... and im saving up for my very own4th generationZ28 (got tired of the old beater 2nd gens...)

Problem is you're a teenager working an entry level position in a grocery store. You're completely replacable. Why pay you $8/hour when he can just find someone else to do the same job for $6.50? The job's probably not worth advancing in, anyway. Just be happy you're making money and then get a real job when you're done with school.

My daily job is taking care of animals in store. Reptiles, 258 fish tanks, small animals, birds, etc for $7.50 an hour but I dont do it for the money. I just like animals. My other job is working for my dads company when I feel like it. $38.00 an hour and money to cover travel ( I write the miles traveled down on the pay slip and they factor it in ) The days are kind of long though, sometimes 13 hours and the events can be a few days long. I can make about $494 in one 13 hour day though so thats nice and I guess its worth it...

Im trying to save my money for now though :)

I recently started working offshore. I set up systems that monitor hydrogen sulfide, a chemical that comes out of the ground when you drill for oil or natural gas, and can kill you. I train all the employess on it and pretty much sit around every day. I may actually work 2 hours in a day, but I bill the rigfor 18 hours a day. That's 126 hours a week. I may do 10-14 hours worth of actual work in that time. Since I started doing this I am now able to afford all kinds of cool as mods, such as a stroker motor for both the Bullitt and the 6er, twin turbos for the Bullitt, and maybe one day, a twin turbo kit for the 6.

It's just rough on me and my girlfriend, since I'm offshore for weeks at a time, but she likes it when I buy her coach, fendi, gucci and **** like that.

I haven't been back here to read this thread in a while. But I got a new job in the beginning of August. Working as a lot man at a Dodge dealership, I make $8 an hour. I work 52 hours a week most of the time, and I have done that for the past three weeks. That's $1200 for three weeks. But I got into an accident before I started working there, so I haven't had the car back to do anything to it. I think I'll be saving up for a 5.0 fox and keeping my car.

I'm working at Office Depot.. Just started last month or so, and I'm currently at $8.00 / hour.. and around 50 - 70 hours every 2 weeks.. Usually every paycheck is about $450 +

All I do really is talk to people all day, Make some copies, and check people out.

But I stopped spending money on my Stang's.. and I'm currently selling my 5.0 Still not sure what I'm going to be doing with the money if I sell it, if I want another mustang, or another bike.

does anyone know of any gigs that are just great money for doing not a whole lot of work? Like a best buy, or a jasons deli, where's a good place to work at? I'm working at a mexican restaurant right now, but I get 2.13/hr and for tips, I make anywhere from $14 a night to like $70 a night when I close. I really need a more constant source of income, as I've got insurance due, and I want to get some money to buy some a set of chrome saleens a guy is selling here for 700 bucks with nice goodyears on the front, and nitto 555 drag radials on the back. hehe, I don't need those, and they'd have to be replaced pretty soon, but I'd love to drive around on drags for a while. I also umpire where I make +- 15 bucks an hour, but I don't get my paycheccks til the end of the season, which kind of sucks, even thought they are usually very large. haha
