TO the OP, advice for you; street racing, stupid: not knowing how to race your car, stupid: racing your mustang without knowing how to drive, stupid: its really all adding up now isn't it?
Im quite suprised no one has started the "why dont you just get a powerhouse turbo in your mustang? Then you'd be able to beat that four door sedan!" argument yet.

You can get 80mph in 2nd gear? I don't remember what the the stock gears were like but 80 sounds a little fast. What RPM were you at at that speed?

stock v6 manual mustang got outrun by a v6 camry... from a stop as well as from 40 to ~80mph(2nd gear all the way), tried with a buddy a few times but to no avail, the '07 268hp/6spd automatic camry kicks @ss with a good margin :-(( ford needs to put its new 3.5L DOHC in the next v6 mustang and keep the price the same! no intent to start any flames here, just bare facts...

Who cares, it's a boring sedan. You go home with something that has a 40+ year history and will grab the attention and hearts of so many. Honestly, that to me is worth more than getting beat by a sedan. Don't sweat it buddy, you're driving history. =-)
well, this is how 99.9% of "mustang vs. _anycar_" threads end up - with nasty comments about one's driving skills and messages with a lot of %&$*( etc. characters, this one turned out to be no exception. By ANY hard numbers (manufacturers or whatever other sources) _stock_ mustang 0-60 and 0-100 is slower than the new v6camry, that's how it is. Cars like the mustang appeal to people, MYSELF INCLUDED, mostly by the perception/history/legendary carchase scenes in movies like Bullitt - emotional things. However, if a miata or eclipseGT easily outruns a cop hemi charger in a street pursuit (check out the recent motortrend cop car story) - I don't think v6 mustang stands a chance there, too. So, image is one thing, but real-life driving performance of today's cars is another. Let's stop this thread.

How many times have I gone out being worried about being beat by another car? NONE! I don't race on the streets and I have a problem with people who do. So who cares if the Camery V6 is faster.....our Mustangs are gorgeous and will snap a head in a heart beat! If you are so worried about the performance, slap a S/C in there.

The new Tundras from the back is a clear example of how Japan is the leader as far as imitators. It looks like a Ford F-150 from the back to me. Why not copy from the best if you don't want to ride like the rest?
I don't race on the street either, that was an isolated incident :-)) on an empty 4-lane interstate with 75mph speed limit and we did not go much over 80. In may state street racing/exhibition of speed = up to 90 days in jail!!!

Yeah the Ford Diesels are nice! A friend who owns a Truck Shop has one with a lift kit on it.....it's sweet! I have an E-350 that we use to pull our 21 ft. boat.
ive got a gt and the only thing that has beaten me is the new c6-z06 ive taken camry's, sti's,civics, rx-8's, eclipses,m3's, lightnings,carrado's,c-5's,maxima's,accords, preludes, cobalt ss, and the jeep srt-8 plus much more its just if you can drive
IMHO the whole dragracing thing is not cool because it simply comes down to who throws more $$$ at the car. I mean, unless you are a DIY genius mechanical engineer designing the parts yourself, basically it is about buying a hot marketed product, taking the car to a shop and opening up your wallet... the more toys you put in - the faster it goes off the line, especially with an automatic - just floor it, no brains required. racing many laps on a twisty track is very different... thet's where the $25-35k$ jap/euro "performance cars shine. its sorta like people going nuts with performance pickup trucks - what's the point of a 6000+pound monster smoking the tires if a civic outruns it after a few sharp turns?
I know I should not even get started but, sometimes speed can be determined by money spent on preformance, but my 94 will still outrun/ outhandle/ get better MPG than plenty of more expensive cars. Simple bolt-ons such as CAI ,tune, gear, exhaust can be added to your car and it will knock off some time of your 1/4 miles. Trucks can be modified to out run/ outhandle/ outhaul and basically outpreform on and off road anything nomatter what it weighs. Do you really think a FWD civic is going to outrun a Lighting, SRT10 Ram in the straights or the curves? Price and country of orgin have nothing to do with preformance when you get down to it. And by the way just because you have an auto doesn't mean you dont have to know how to drive.
My little v6 Mustang beats the **** out of our Mazda 6.
Me smells a troll...

yeah, whatever... laws of physics, particularly the Newton's F = M x A do not apply to v6 mustangs with stripes and spoilers :-)))
IMHO: observation#1: stock v6 is slower that '07 v6camry :-))))) on paper and in reality. get over it. observation#2: all v6 modifiers wish they had a GT anyways. observation#3: alot of people will be traiding their mustangs for challengers/400hpcamaros observation#4: stripes/chins/spoilers/fake hoods look no better on v6'stang then they do on ricer's civics

hey guys, i'm new here. from what i have read, i think every one needs to get back to reality. i myself, remember the time when street racing was cool and fun. if it is done safely it is awsome. the problem is that alot of kids buy a new car and think they can drive. racing requires skill if it is done safely. whether it is on the street or on the track, you have to know what you are doing. i normally race on the street. i have been a "motor head' since i was 16. i am now 32 and have alot of experience under my belt. i still love it! whether it is on the track or street, i look forward to my next race. all these rice burners sink tons of money in therir ride. i will do the same. if you think you can take my stang, give it a shot. if you do, good for you. next time may be different. either way, i have fun. isn't that what is all about?
