Tranny has been leaking and out of sorts. Guy working on the car (who I trust) suggested getting a rebuilt C4 then trying to pull it and fix all the bugs. And no, he just doesn't happen to have one. He's the straightest shop I have dealt with. I have to find one but have no clue on cost. So, anyone have any ideas or experience on the cost of a rebuilt C4, auto, for a 68 w/289? I live in Jacksonville Florida.

Thanks,

Wayne

I'm in sothern california and I just got quoted $550 for a bench job complete with converter and valve body swap (67-68 Valve body because I've got a green dot trans). I think it was only $50 extra for the valve body swap. I don't know the shop like my best friend but he did a 400Turbohydro for me long ago and it came out great- he gets my business again.

I know this may be a cheaper route, but comes with a decent warranty. $350 after core at Advanced Auto Parts. It is a transmission built by accurate and it does include the converter.

if your doing anything in the performance dept. you can get a modified trans that would still retain automatic shifts for like 1,000 from PA or TCI, or even cheaper from some of the large sellers on ebay. or, buy the kit that contains the quality parts for a couple hundred and have a shop assemble

JMD- Thanks for the link! I noticed that those transmissions are not SFI approved. What is SFI? anyone?

I think that will have to do with qualification from some racing sanctioning bodies,,, like NHRA etc....

The non approval would mean that you could not race your car in some racing catagories.....

$550 for a rebuild?  Dang, I thought Cali. was more costly than here in TX.  I've been quoted like $1300 from 4 different places.  I called them a rip-off and hung up on them

Thanks for the responses. I went to Advance Auto and the price for a rebuilt with converter was $384.44 plus $175 core. Plus they stand behind their stuff. So, I'm going for it.

Thanks agin to everyone for the input.
