another bench race...just for fun

Stock 03/04 cobra vs. S2000 w/ LS1 swap and basic bolt ons

-Phil

I'll take the Cobra....FWD for the loss....

S2000s' are RWD.  And 350 HP in a little car like that, i would take the S2000.

And about the magazines, I love car and driver.  I am a subcriber and they always tell it like it is.  And I have seen them give a slower car a win over a faster car.  However its not always on interrior & crap.  Its usally becuase of handling or somthing.  They like to see how fast things go around a track more than what they do in a strait line.  Which is why I like them.  I like to read Road & track somtimes too.  Automoblie & hot rod are alright, but i never read them on a regular basis.  I only have the Camaro special from hot rod & the only automobile magazine I've read was while I was in the hospital.

Id put the Viper at mid 11's and the BlueDevil at mid 10's, and id bet on it hitting 9's on slicks.

I know Consumer Reports is'nt a auto rag exclusively, but they are the hardest on domestic products...Even though they gave the Mustang and Corvette high marks this time around , usually thats not the norm..

Ooooh.  Two oldies but goodies.  I'd love to see that race.  But I'm not up to speed on the specs.........so I couldn't really say who'd have the upper hand.

Ok, I thought this would be the best place to ask.  What is faster in stock form, the 2001 Cobra or the 2005+ GTs??

Assuming equal traction.. the Cobras should be able to manage AT LEAST an equal ET... from a roll the cobra should walk..

its all about that funky torque curve on the SN Cobras Pre Terminator, and the launch on the 99,01's...

assuming you can master those two important parts of racing *coughcough4.10'scough* you should have NO trouble sending a Cobra well past a S197....

I would have to think the 05+ GTs would have the upper hand down low........and the Cobras would have the advantage as the rpms and speeds get higher.

My money is on the XJ-220...70 more hp and 45 more tq, though 500lbs heavier.

2001 Cobra vs 2005 GT...I'd have to give it to the GT both in a drag race and in a twisties run.  The Cobra has "20 more hp" but the GTs are underrated in terms of power and weigh 100lbs less, have 3.55 gears opposed to 3.27, a solid axle for better launching, a chassis 3 times as torsionally rigid in addition to better skidpad numbers for better cornering.  It would nonetheless be extremely close.  I would give a roll race to the COBRA though, by a fender or two.

Ok, I just now stumbled upon this thread, so quick question....

My 350Z was recently totaled, and as it says in the sig, we're planning on trading our A4 in on a CTS-V. What are you guys' thoughts on these??? Anybody race one before???

Oh, those things are kewl.  Ive seen a few and had the plesure of seeing one at the track.  they could with like 400 HP and I think its an LS2.  The only thing about them is that they are so big & heavy.  However the advantage is that the designers spent some time with the nurmburgring in germany, and used it to make the car.  So for being a 4 door saloon car it handles very well.

The one I saw at the track had an after market supercharger ontop of the stock LS2 along with a bunch of other goodies.  First time he ever ran it, he was egar to see what it could do.  So after he got staged, he launched & blew the tranny apart.  it took them about 45 minutes to clean everything up.  I guess he didnt know you had to make sure the transmition can handle the power.

Well, that certainly sucks.

BTW, the CTS-V earlier years came with the LS6.  They are nice cars, and pretty quick too.

So the CTS-V auto is a four speed? Not the 6speed?
According to ppl on the Corvette forum the A6's breaking point is 550rwhp.....Thats why if anyone has a ATI Procharger running at it's designed output 615bhp watch out.....

Don't CTS-Vs only come with the 6 speed manuals?

How did you total your 350Z? If I were to get a 4 door luxury car it would probably be the CTS-V. I like the performance of the E55 AMG and the looks of it more but it only comes in auto.

If you read closely and look at his sig, he stated to sell the Audi A4 to buy a CTS-V.
