Yet more goofy tune questions

A_J -> Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 9:03:39 AM)

So - I went and installed the Steeda CAI and tune from Brenspeed this weekend - car drives much better! I'm still on the 87 octane tune, but yes, better and more even power, throttle feels better too.

But a couple of follow up questions -

1) Do the Brenspeed tunes turn off the adaptive learning, or am I still going to have to retrain her every now and then?

2) When I ordered the tunes, I specified 91 as the highest octane around here. But since then I noticed some stations selling 92. Would this be ok to use? I realize that you never ever want to use a lower octane than the tune is built for, but what about a higher octane? My brain is telling me that since a higher octane would be even less prone to detonation that running 92 octane on a 91 tune should be ok, even though I may not be getting the most out of the 92 gas.

Thx-

You can run 92 on the 91.. you won't get the full benefit of it, but as long as you're not running 89 on a 91 tune you'll be fine... as far as adaptive learning... no clue... wait for howarmat to answer.. he seems to know a lot about tuning

s197richie -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 9:20:14 AM)

1.  with brenspeed tunes you just upload once and never have to reload again...

2.  I don't see why you couldn't run one octane point higher than your tune is for (running one or more lower could be a quick ticket to kablammo-ville)...it's just that you won't get any gain out of running the 92 over the 91...you could always spend the $75 on a brenspeed 92 tune, but then you'd have to make damn sure that you have easy access to the 92 octane in your area...

howarmat -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 9:26:44 AM)

I am not sure about that....i have read reports both ways....IT seems that some people have problems with the car relearning your driving while others dont...With dougs tune I cant say it ever loses its pep...i didnt run the brenspeed for more than 1.5 weeks so i am not sure about that.....my suggestion is to email brent.

A_J -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 9:58:27 AM)

I emailed Brenspeed, I'll report back on what they say - thx

kindred169 -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 10:00:58 AM)

I have the Brenspeed tune and my experience has been that it relearns.  It never goes back to stock, but it does become a bit sluggish.  I just periodically reload the tune.  Fixes her right up.  Curious what Brenspeed says about it.  I know a lot of us have been reloading the tune.

howarmat -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 10:02:43 AM)

I think it does shut down or severely hurt the learning process but I do not believe it is completely shutdown.

mattstang2007 -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 10:15:16 AM)

i am about to run a 91 tune with 90 octane gas will that be ok?

A_J -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 10:22:14 AM)

That seems to be the consensus - a lower octane gas is going to be more prone to detonation/pinging, so a tune optimized for 91 may be running the motor harder than the lower octane can handle.

I also emailed that question to Brenspeed to get thier take on it.

I would advise against that!!!   I hope you're kidding around

ok damn well i have the c&l intake on guess i will have to wait for him to make to right tune for me.

howarmat -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 10:54:17 AM)

You cant find any 91 gas??

mattstang2007 -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 11:21:48 AM)

nope here in england we have 90 and 94

A_J -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 11:30:18 AM)

94! wow... Yes, I'd talk to them first.. There's a little part of me that feels like the UK may rate their octane differently.. I may be wrong tho -

mattstang2007 -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 12:08:12 PM)

yeah they do but on the pumps it has uk and us octane ratings.

2cokeman -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/23/2007 12:26:42 PM)

The tell me a SCT that the tuners don't turn off adaptive learning but with mine throttle lag is definatley gone as it seems for good!!

A_J -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/24/2007 1:36:52 PM)

Here's what Brent had to say:

1) Do the Brenspeed tunes turn off the adaptive learning in my '07 Mustang GT, or am I still going to have to retrain the drive by wire throttle every now and then?

"I think you are talking about two different things. But to answer your question the car will not adapt to remove performance. "

"Yes run 92 with the 91 octane tune. The knock sensors will see the higher octane and add timing if there is enough difference between your 91 and 92 in your area. "

So from his response to question 1 it would seem that the drive-by-wire throttle response and the adaptive learning are two separate things.. maybe this is where some confusion arises in discussion.. And in regards to answer #2, I read in a magazine that our cars don't employ knock sensors, but in this case I'm leaning towards Brent's response - perhaps there's some other means of knock detection other than the traditional knock sensors. I'm curious if there's anything about them in the Helms manuals..

Aziraphale -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/24/2007 1:43:53 PM)

I've heard they do have knock sensors.  I believe FordFanBoy said they did.

Just hearsay though.

Bluestar -> RE: Yet more goofy tune questions (7/24/2007 6:08:45 PM)

If you drive like a normal person (impossible when driving a GT), after a while you may lose some of that snap of the tune, just reload it again and your good to go. As far as octane, when I put 94 Octane in it feels even better.......I don't think it's my imagination [image]http://www.mustangforums.com/micons/m9.gif[/image]
