I wonder if it's possible to file a class action suit against ford for claiming 300 hp and every dyno I have seen says the GT has 260 or so. Isn’t this false advertising?
Wow! I had to look up the number of your posts to be sure if you are serious... But with 900+ of them under your belt you were not aware of the difference?
Yes I know there is a difference between flywheel and rear wheel. But no where does it say flywheel hp rated. There isn't a easy way to check flywheel hp. But even if that is the case , at 260 rear wheel hp on a dyno, I doubt that the trans and rear end use 40 hp. Especially on a stick. Horse power ratings http://www.hardtail.com/techtips/hpexplained.html
15-20 percent parasitic loss depending on manual or auto the number varies but it would be 255 for a manual(300x 0.85) and 240 for an auto(300x0.80). Thats a just ageneral range on the parasitic loss but it's on the ballpark and is actually a little lower than you were thinking so maybe the loss isnt that bad afterall.

Well, it is a known (obviously not as known as I thought) fact that every manufacturer posts engine hp numbers. As far as how much HP you loose in between the flywheel and the rear tire, there is no need to loose sleep over it's acuracy. If dynos post RWHP in the mid 260s, it is just that; a mid 30s HP loss. Ford or other renowned companies cannot lie about their engine output testing. I am not aware of how it is regulated, but there is some form of officiating within the industry.

Well, if you figure a 15% drivetrain loss from a 300 hp starting point. 85% of 300 equals 255 rwhp. So I see nothing wrong with stock numbers around 260HP
They do say its a 300hp "engine". They test them off of the car, I'm guessing at the engine manufacturer. Thats with any car. Why would any automaker advertise wheel hp when engine hp is always a bigger number? It makes it look better for the consumer. They have always done this sinse day 1. Its nothing new.

You know your right the factories should dyno each car and then only advertise each indvidual car casue that would be really cost effective. Each car and motor are different that is a base line taken from several test motors that gives them a reliable baseline. But the finished product is different on each car.
Bone stock with 700 miles on it, on a Mustang Dyno, my car spun the rollers to the tune of 258rwhp which equates to roughly 303hp at the flywheel. 258/.85 = 303. Sounds like Ford hit the mark to me.

MTAS That formula is from the 70s, and many improvements have come along which decrease the hp needed to power a trans or a rear end.
rmays06 So you think it's ok for a seller to say they have something and not really have it? A dozen eggs in a carton should be 12 not 11. And just because they say 12 on the carton , sometimes you have to open it and see 12. Yes I believe if Ford says there is 300 flywheel horse power then there should be some documentation that says this and verification for what they say. The US government office of Weights and measures should buy a car from the lot and pull the motor and put it on a dyno. If it's 300 hp, tell the world, if it's 280 hp tell the world and make ford fix them all. If Ford puts 300 hp in there engines then that’s great , but if its less, then they should be exact or use the word "about" in front of 300. I don't think that is to much to ask, to get what they say is there and what you pay for.
