I was under the impression that the difference between the 3.8 and the 3.9 is the stroke. I thought everything else was the same. Damn you, now I have to go Googleing! [sm=smiley36.gif]

The reason the 04 v6 has a 3.9L is because it shared the engine with the new ford minivan, and the minivan got a restyle and went to a 3.9. There is virtually no performance gain, and using 3.8L parts should be no problem. You might want to call before you try a headswap etc but everything else should be exactly the same.

Its the SAME ENGINE just like 2000gt4.6 said except its stroked out a little bit. You can use the same parts on the regular 3.8l mustangs because their not gonna make special parts for a 3.9l mustang.

Just for information, the bores of the 3.8 and 3.9 are the same at 3.81". The strokes are different. 3.8 is 3.39" stroke, while the 3.9 is 3.46".

The additional stroke of the 3.9 means that it's displacement calculates out to be 236.68 cid or 3.88005 litres. The 3.8 is 231.8947 cid or 3.801 litres.
