I wouldnt change it until I broke it, but thats just me :)  Simply the difference in a stock 289 vs a stock 351 isnt gonna be enough to break anything unless maybe you drag you car and launch on slicks.

I agree I have a 289 in mine and I am puting out 350 at the wheels.  It is a really nice motor.  Of coarse I have around 6,000 in the motor.

Get the 351, more cubes = more power for your dollar.

289 would be better on a road course with its high revs than it would be in a 1/4.

If you are going to do a swap and not keep it orginal I would go with a newer fuel injected motor.  Install a 5.4 or a 5.0 cobra motor

If do not care about keeping it somewhat original, then sell the 289 and get whatever you want

 The 8" should hold up just fine. I would think its tougher than the new rear ends.

ahh I havent read this post since I last posted

Ok you want 400 hp, your probably gonna have to supercharge a 289 or 302 to get that muuch power in a reliable streetable package.  You can get 400hp with a 351 with just ported stock heads and a performer rpm cam / intake / carb package (less than 500 or 600 bucks) and full exhaust.  Very streetable and mean as hell sounding.  Try that with a 289.

So now you have my $.04

     I know people with 600 hp with 289's that are N/A.  They run leaded racing fuel and are really beefed up but they are streetable.  Not something you want to go diving in everyday though.  Im just saying you don't always need to go bigger to make something better.  It seems like eveyone always says get rid of the little motor and put a bigger one in.  I like shifting at 7,000 in my 289, once you get over 6,000 the engine sounds perfect to my ear anyway.  289's are damn good motors.

Not bashing a 289 or 302 by any means, but more power is easier to come by and more streetable the more cubes you have.  And your friend must have like 15 to 1 compression and be revving to 10k rpm to make that much power NA.

Go for a 351c, I got a complete engine with tranny for 200. They make better power than a windsor. But you can stroke a 351w to like a 393 or 427 even.

  Hey everybody;

 I've swapped the 289 in my 65, and I have a stroked 351w to 420ci with 4bbl clv. heads.

  a have a couple of questions ;  I got this part # for  1 7/8 " headers from Hedman that fit (#PNES7) 'but I can't find anybody that has them in stock. Anybody know anyone ?

 Secondly, I can't remember which kind of car has the oil-pan I need at the wrecker. I'd really appreciate any help,

                                                  thanks Mike
