Default Few Questions from the Newbie

Hi All... few questions I'm guessing any one of you could probably answer in your sleep:

1. What does the term "Catback" refer to? Is this to do with having, or not having catalytic converters on your exhaust system?

2. I was looking at H-pipes and X-pipes and some warn that they are not able to be used on convertibles. Is this true of all H & X pipes? If so... Being a convertible owner, what are the best options for adding dual exhaust?

3. What kind of places are out there for updating your chips when you add mods? Is it worth buying your own software?

4. Is it possible my '01 V6 might have a speed limiter on it? I was racing with a Subaru the other day and I swear my speed wouldn't go over 95. If this is the case, will a shop turn this limiter off or is illegal to do so? ~* I beat him, but since I couldn't go fast I think it was because of the fact that we were both looking out for cops on the road and I was a little less fearless, not because I burned him. *~

Thanks... I know I sound like a douche bag for asking these basic questions... but hey, everybody starts somewhere, right?

1: from the stock catalytic converters back, not new cats with them.
2:they are available but if your wheelbase is longer than a coupe, when you get a system, specify that.
3:dont know much about chips and i heard if you only do minor bolt ons like cat back, cai, and wheels/tires.. as long as the wheels/tires combo is same overall height of stockers, you wont need a chip. whatever you do, dont get a chip off ebay however.
4:yes, but it is higher than 95mph. taking it off, who will know. i think the limiter is over 120mph.

your not a douchebag for asking the Qs. i am still pretty new to this stuff as well. i have respect for people who care enough about their cars to ask these questions.

1. Cat-back, usually refers to an exhaust that bolts up directly behind the cats. Hence the term cat-back, so everything back of the cats.

2. Not all h-pipes have no cats. To get an H-pipe with no cats, it's called an Off-Road H-pipe.

3. The best and only chip you should get is an SCT chip. They have the complete ability to control every function in your EEC. Is it worth it? Well that depends how how fast you can learn how to tune your car.

4 As for the limiter. With a chip you can remove it completely and it will be the engine's capabilities that will stop you.
