question on regular or premium fuel switch

t23175210 -> question on regular or premium fuel switch (7/19/2007 3:29:01 PM)

84 Mustang Svo[:D]
You know that fuel switch that lets you choose if your running regular or premium? Different boost settings on each one? Like 9 psi. for regular and 18 psi.(I think[8|]), correct me if im wrong. Would it hurt the motor if i ran on regular fuel on the premium setting, running on stock18ish psi with out a boost controler? Or put some money in to a boost gauge, a gauage housing, and a boost controler?

Thanks

P.S.: one other question, when my mustang gets up to normal running temp, it starts to rise in till it goes over the " 'notmal temp' bar/section/what ever you want to call it " then the fan kicks in. the fan has not started up intill this point. Does this occur on your Svo's?[:@]

Thanks Again

If you run regular on the premo mode you'll either ping, or blow up[8D]

the switch lets you choose from 9-10 psi on reg and 14 (in the 84's) on prem.  i didnt know what i was doing when i first bought the car and ran regular all the time.  believe me, super is sooo worth the extra money.  dont goose it unless you have too and the mileage will work out the price difference.  you can run regular with the prem switch on, as long as you have some OCTANE BOOSTER in the tank with it.  either way it will cost 5 or more bucks per tank to make it safe.  you dont need anything else to run more boost.  just pull the hose off the boost control solenoid and connect it to the other port on the turbo.  making a loop on the boost control circuit.  its easy and cheap, but YOU will have to learn to watch the boost and keep it below the buzzer because this method pretty uncorks boost and lets you run as much as it can.  the buzzer turns on at 18 psi and without some later turbo-2.3 parts you dont want much more.  if you get a boost controller a manual $50 one is all you need. nothing too expensive or fancy.  if it works, it works.

if the temp doesnt get to the red then its fine.  the fan is like the thermostat in a 5.0.  it turns on at a certain temp.  if you want to keep your car cooler, get some purple ice by royal purple. it really does work.  i have it in our 4 stangs and they all run a good deal cooler.

The stock fan controller is set to come on at like 220 degrees. One of the first things we do on these cars is either buy a fan controller or wire a toggle switch to trigger it when ever you want. If I remember right your a/c should kick on the fan when you start the compressor.

The premium/regular switch also changes the timing if I remember that right.

I don't have a/c and my pre switch controlles the nitrous system main power so telling you how it works requires me to think back a bit.
