Need some help.I have a 73 mustang coupe with a 302. Need to be able to pass emmissions. Want to build it up to run around 350 hp. Would it be better to build a 351C or keep the 302? Looking to get the most hp for the money and keep it street legal. Would like to use it for weekend drag racing. Have seen a lot of build kits to go either way. If anyone has some ideas let me know.

FWIW you car only needs a sniff test at idle and at speed. If it is well tuned and in generally good working condition either a 301 or 351 making the power level you want should pass without issue. However, the extra cubes always make power 'easier' meaning less cam.

I dont think the limits are very high, the 302 passed without the egr working and most of the other emmissions parts disconnected. Only concern was at what point while increasing cam and head size will the car not pass?
351 will give you more torque meaning you dont need as much power to get action...in a big car like a 73 its a no brainer to me.
What emissions do they actually test?
