hey everyone. I am new to this forum and my brother made this account for a couple of day sago because my parents will be getting me an 08 mustang saleen. The problem is that they absolutley WILL NOT get me it if i cannot get a light color interior. are there such things as tan interior saleens? You may be asking why does it matter and the answer is i dont know, they just dont like it and its their decision ultimatley. Can I ask the dealer to just switch seats if I cannot do that? Or is anyone willing to trade their BRAND NEW Saleen seats for some tan leather ones?(must be brand new of course). Sorry if i sound stupid or anything, but im kind of in a hole about the interior, and i just absolutley LOVE this care so i gotta get it. I would be the only person in my immediete family to own a domestic :):D
Oh and I forgot to mention that I probably will not be getting the SC version simply because i want to turbo it instead. Also will be upgrading the Saleen supsension.

Saleen only makes the black seats. That has to be the oddest reason against a car though [&:]
Also, why a 2008? The 2007 model year closeout is just ramping up and there are deals to be had. I've already seen 0% financing, which came a month or two earlier than this same offer came last year.
If you are stuck about the color just order a GT, body kit, and the turbo and be done. With the mods you are going to need to do to the interior and the engine I don't see the point of buying a Saleen and paying the markup... (if you change seats you are going to have to change carpet, door panels, etc... you can't just swap tan seats into an all black interior and pull it off imo)

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking about getting an 07 because it would be much cheaper but my brother says I should get an 08 because if i get totalled, i would get more money for it. Is that correct? Hmmm, if i get the 07s, then more money for mods:). I have a friend getting a GT this same month, maybe he will trade me his entire interior, just not the carpet. Ill just have floor mats covering it. Does anyone have a better idea? The reason I cant get a GT and slap on a kit is again because my parenst will absolutley not let me buy a new car and just slap on new bumpers. Gotta understand, im only 18 :)

ChiDiddy,
No offense, but this section is mostly made up of the mature, discerning enthusiast who would hate to hear about giving advice to an 18 year old who's 'parents are going to buy me a Saleen' only to find out they wrapped it around a telephone poll for acting their age behind the wheel of a fast car. You won't find many here that will say, "Awesome! Switch my interior! I'd love to help you get into one!"
It just doesn't give me a good feeling. I drove a crap car when I was that age and there was a reason for it.
If you must get something new, get a Mustang GT and slowly build it up. Send your parents in here and we'll talk them out of setting you up in a brand new Saleen.I don't want you to contribute to the reason the rates are so high on these cars.

chill out on the fibs. If you want to hang out here, everyone here is happy to see a new face. Doesn't matter is you own a Saleen, have one on the way, or just love them but can't afford it. Thank you Smoothy. You seem to be the only welcoming person here for me. I dont own an NSX. I think you looked at it wrong. It is an RSX. But I am fine if people dont believe anything I say. I will just have to come back in a week or two when i actually have the car to show you. The reason I show in my sig a GT coming is because that is a for SURE if i cant get a Saleen due to the interior.
WTH are all of you getting all fussy that im getting a Saleen? Oh is it because Im only 18 and i can afford a Saleen? Thats my business if i can or not. I am OK if you dont think i can afford it.
To be honest, I'm not a dedicated Saleen enthusiust. I like the car so hopefully I will get it. Plain and simple.
I have no one to impress here. I could careless what you think of me. I dont know any of you and i will probably never meet anyone here in person. SO I DONT CARE TO IMPRESS ANYONE.
I don't know if you realize it but you guys sound like your hating on an 18 year old getting the same car you worked so hard to get. Correct me if im wrong. But dont think i didint work hard for this. (thats if you believe i have my own company or not)

Ok can't resist. ChiDiddy, there are several Saleen owners on this forum who are as young or younger than you and they are treated with respect because they've earned it. Or rather, they haven't dis-earned it (is that a word?) by "bending the truth" or questioning which car would have more value if they totalled it.
You are young, not only in years but in experience and maturity. That will hopefully change with time. "You're still young, that's your fault, there's so much you have to go through"
If you end up with a Saleen or not, or end up totalling it or not, I believe I speak for all of us when I say we wish you only happiness and success.

Chididdy, your partially correct.
It is not so much were "hating" on an 18 year old owning a Saleen, but as most of us are much older, realize what happends to MOST 18 year olds with a high performance car. I personally think that NO parent does his/her child a favor in buying them a car (any car) much less a V8. I went to HS with a guy whos dad worked with Carrol Shelby. He built his son a V8 Vega, and later a very fast Camaro and destroyed them both. He had no respect for either because they were given to him and felt he was "entitled" to have a nice car. I bought a Vega (4 banger) when I was in HS. Every penny I put into that car ($5000, believe it or not) was my own and I learned respect for driving and value of a dollar (guess the dollar value thing came a little slowly ;)) and kept my insurance in check as tickets were hard to come by in a 18.9 second 1/4 mile car (that was my best time)
It is COMPLETELY UNFAIR for us to pass such judgement on you,but is a reactionary thing, for me anyway. None of us wish you ill will or NOT to get the car you want. We are all good people in here and just a little old school.

Ok you know what? Just forget my background then. If that is so hard to accept that i am 18 years old with my OWN money top pay for this owell. I am not a one of those teens who dont even have the funds to pay for this yet buy it and end up having someone else take over their payments. This car is being paid for in cash(fine if you dont believe me) The fact is I earned my money to buy this. My parenst ARE NOT paying for this. They simply have the decision because I am still only 18. And why are you stuck on my question about the totalling? Is that not a simple question to be answered? No harm was done in asking that question. Maybe I like to think ahead on IF i get in an accident, will insurance give me the most value possible? I dont need that question answered anymore because i went to my insurance agent and asked myself. I dont see anything wrong with the question asked. When you think ahead, you get ahead of the game Amy...

Thank you so much for being the only one willing to explain this hostility towards me. I can put myslef in your feet and would think the exact same way of a teen. I have been driving since I was 15, never been pulled over, and never ever raced a car. May have stepped on the gas heavily a couple of times just because im late for school, but thats it. I have been driving a GMC Sub and a turboed RSX. I think being able to drive a turboed car is enough experience for me to drive a Saleen 3 valve (basically a GT with new looks).

Chi - swapping out seats with somebody else would not be very wise IMO. The seats are different, save for the frame. You'd be putting tan GT seats (not total leather)in a Saleen and some lucky bum would be getting Saleen Leather (TOTAL leather)seats in there car - and they would both look stupid IMO (black & tan mix).
You also mentioned swapping out the Saleen expension - why?! Have you DRIVEN one yet - the suspension is great. So if you are planning such mods your money would probably be better spend on a '07 clearout Mustang GTor even very low mile used '06.
I don't think anybody hates you or 18 year olds for that matter - just a little skepticism based on your first few posts.
And as for your comment on getting more money for an '08 vs '07 if it was totalled - thats just the stupidest thing I've ever heard ;) You don't buy a car for its potential "totaled" value [sm=headbang.gif]

Congrats on your purchase when it comes in. Post up pics. This is one of the friendliest forums out there for cars. If you spend some time on car forums you'll know that. Don't go by your introduction, as you kind of made yourself a target, just read back through some of the archives about the interiors, suspension, etc... of the 3V.

Thanks sowaxeman for all yoru input. I know I am 18 and everything but I am Asian and it is uin our culture to keep obeying our parents even pass the age of 18, no matter how much money I make. Can you tell me how much Mustang GT preimums usually sell for? Because where Im comign from these dealers are still selling GTs for 28,000. I have a quote on a Mustang Saleen 3Valve for 38,500, which is a steal IMO.
Yes I have test drove the Saleen, and YES the supsension is awesome, but I am looking for a MUCh stiffer ride and would like to adjust many of the suspension aspects. I'm looking at the D-Spec setup along with BMR and Steeda components.

Please DO NOT PUT STIFFER SPRINGS THAN SALEEN. The car will handle HORRIBLY on the road if you do so!!!!!!!
Street handling is NOT found in stiffer springs, it is found in stiffer chassis. Go "K" member, control arms (front and rear) and Watts-Link. Maybe this is what you meant so sorry if I read into your post. Just a word of advice man if you really want the respect of everyone in here, stop blabbing on about all the cars you own and that you own a business. To me a 22 year old, you sound like a little **** head who is trying to make a fact that your only 18 and are driving all these cars. I have a friend who is 19 and has a 355 Ferarri that he bought because he owns a business also. But guess what nobody knows that he owns it because he doesnt go around flaunting it. I will welcome you into the Saleen Community when you get it, but dont be one of the little snobby assholes that thinks hes better because hes 18 and "works as hard" as all of us. If you knew what it meant to own of these special cars you would understand. Its about what they make you feel and the way people respect them. It has emotion behind it, and untill you can realize that, you are going to keep getting reemed by everyone here. So if you want respect, ask in an adult way and stop being snobby because you are giving us young guys a bad rep. Just my 2 cents and 3 and 4. But best of luck with you business. By the way when did you start your business and what do you and how did you get all the credit and collateral to start it atyour age? Just curious

Sorry Chi. That one doesn't lookreal. There's no number on the front bumper, factory saleens didn't come with the word "saleen" written on the side near the stripes in 05+, and the1/4 window in the back is missing a plastic piece that lines the front of it on saleens. This saleen also has the S/C or E hood instead of the 3v hood.
Looks likeit might be a modded GT.
Here's an example of what the 3V should look like:
hey carpen you are right. I do kinda sound terrible. But fact is that only 3 of my closest friends even know I own the business too. I started the business when i was 16 through my parenst and once I turned 18 in Jan, they transfered all the papers under my name. My business is a worldwide floral network. A network of flower shops that allow me to have flowers delivered virtually anywhere **Enough said**:D And no im not a florist. I dont touch any flowers at all. I just own a call center that handles the floral orders.
About the cars I drive, i wasnt trying to flaunt it or anything. Just wanted to show that i do have some experience in driving :)

Yes, there were some autos made. You will have to do some research to find out how many and in what years. I, personally, hope you are in the market for a stick as this is the ONLY way to go with aSaleen :)

Chi - to the best of my knowledge the ford factory leather is only leather on the front panels, the sides and back sections are simulated/vinyl. Saleen leathers is leather all around.

(thats if you believe i have my own company or not)
I originally was going to keep my mouth shut on this thread but Ive had enough. Chi, I am the only other 18 year old Saleen owner on this forum (as far as I know). When I first joined, I didnt come out saying, hey Im only 18 and I am doing this and I own that and blah blah blah blah blah. If you havent noticed yet, all these awesome people on this forum dont want to hear that, or let alone speak of it. They like to talk mustangs, because that is what we do here (other than Jazzers smokin hott photo shoots ;)). They have all been very nice and welcoming to me and I thank them for that, but you have to realize that the way they treat you in here, is a result of your actions. Keep that in mind sir, and look forward to getting to know you.
Oh, and sometimes they do get on me, dont get defensive, just learn to deal with it. Read this forum...navigator (http://www.mustangforums.com/m_3532737/tm.htm)
Martha recommends you keep it out of direct sunlight.
;)
Amy recommends you keep it under the speed limit...

Hey 06Saleen3v thanks for sharing your story with me. I honestly didint want to come out with everything but i guess the way i phrased it made it seem that my parents where paying for it and everyone got kinda irritated at that. So i just had to come out so people could understand me more and the reason i have to get the light interior like my parenst want me (still listen to my folks cuz mt age) (Never meant to brag or anything:()

No worries Chi, just wanted to tell you that there are some really great folks in here and didnt want you to be intimidated by some of their reactions towards you. I have said my fair share of stupid things (more so when I first joined the forums) but I feel I've definitely matured over the last 3 and a half months andI think it is partially due to the people on these forums. Keep us posted sir!

my parents will be getting me an 08 mustang saleen. The problem is that they absolutley WILL NOT get me it if i cannot get a light color interior.

ChiDiddy - get over it... so you have rich mommy and daddy. Some of us have worked hard to get our cars and that is why we will enjoy it even more. I personally believe that until you earn your own money to spend on a car, you will not truly appreciate it. That is just my 2 cents. Best of luck to you on your purchase.
This reminds me of when I went to USC for my post grad degree. There were tons of students there where their parents were paying for their entire dental school education ($200k+). So the students would get all the student loans that they could get and buy themselves either a Porsche or Ferrari.[&:]

Wow 3 pages of this.. reminds me of an off topic section..
I won't add fuel to the fire. Good luck with whatever you getregardless of who writes the check every month, and I concur with what others have said, this is a great forum for advice and feedback and just general conversation on these very special and unique cars.
Remember the old mantra...

My parents paid for my first and second cars (66 Mustang vert, then 65 Mustang vert) and I couldn't agree more with abbas and others who believe in working hard to earn something. Neither of my first two cars was fancy or expensive -- I believe the first cost $1100 and the second cost $1600. And NO, I didn't get a second one because I totalled the first! We just learned too late that the first was loaded with bondo and my dad wanted an "investment" (ha ha that's funny).
Anyway, I loved those cars but they didn't get the care they deserved and in many ways I took them for granted. I wasn't a spoiled kid by any stretch but nothing can replace the commitment you feel to something when you've worked hard to get it. My third car, a Nissan Sentra (brand new and I paid for it) was immaculate at all times. I wish I had given the verts that kind of care....
After my experience I decided that if I ever had kids, they would pay for their cars and help pay for their educations. However, then I forgot to have kids....:)
