Hey guys I recently just got a new truck so I wasn't driving the stang all the time and I had to get a little bass in there too. I've installed several stereos but I'm having trouble with this one and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I've got the sub and amp all wired in and when I turn the key on the light on the amp comes on for a few seconds and then fads out and I cant figure out what the problem is. I have a good solid ground (I sanded the paint off the floorboard), there are no fuses blown, and my power on cable is spliced into the cigarette lighter since I'm keeping the stock deck. I'm sure its a short somewhere but I'm completely lost, does anyone have any ideas?

Do you think this is why it only stays on for a short while? I thought that all it needed was a constant 12 volt source of power, isn't that what a cigarette lighter is?

why didn't you run the 12v directly to the battery? i don't think the wire you are using is big enough. the amp requires alot of power, i don't think the cig. lighter fuse can handle it. check your fuse box.

wait. your power on cable? did you mean the remote cable?
it should work, but i wired mine to the antenna/remote wire, which is the blue wire if you have an aftermarket HU. check your fuse from the fuse holder next to your battery. I had the same problem this weekend. Mine didn't look blown until i disconnect the holder and took out the fuse. It was cracked. replaced it with a new fuse and boom. everything works perfect.
I have a 65 stang and in mine the cig lighter has consant power. If yours does too, then you need to wire your remote to an accersory wire (only comes on with the turn of the key, and NOT constant power) Then make sure your ground is secure, power (red thick cable) is connected properly to the battery, then you should be good. An amp install is not complicated at all. Back, Red, gives it power, but you still need a turn on/off and a signal (RCA cables) With these 4 things you cant go wrong

what i would do is unhook the speakers and see if it stays on then. if it does then check your speakers, if not jump arcoss the 12v power to the remote turn on. if it stays on then you know you need a different remote connection(maybe even wire). if it doesn't stay on then you need to check your 12v and ground connection. i would take a set of jumper cables and connect the amp right to the battery, if it stays on then you know it's the 12v power or ground connection. if it doesn't stay on now, it's time to buy a new amp.
