Default Traction Control and ABS issues

Have a 2001 V6 Convertable with 75K miles. A fault has started appearing where if I drive my car from cold start for say 5+ miles, the ABS warning light on the dash comes on and the Traction Control on/off goes to off and cannot be changed. It started intermittently but is now doing it all of the time. The wierd thing is though is that I am 99.9% sure that I do not have ABS (according to the VIN records).

I read somewhere that there is a relationship in the systems for ABS and Traction control thus I'm sure there is a shared component that has failed. I believe there is some module...? But reading the Hayes manual, it only mentions about the ABS system and tells you SFA about the Traction Control, components off etc....

If anyone has heard of this problem or could share info on what components I need to check / try replacing, please let me know.

Thanks

Yes I believe the traction control system uses the ABS speed sensors to determine if you're wheels are spinning (rear wheels turning faster than the front ones).

And I'm pretty sure if your car has traction control then it WILL have ABS as well.. check around the front brake rotors for an electrical wire leading to the sensor gear

correct if you have traction control you have abs. sounds like a abs sensor is at fault they tend to go bad the most and usually go in and out till they totally die. and the light stays on constant. your gonna need to get the code pulled to find out want sensor is malfunctioning
