Windows tinted, not happy..

Top Gear -> Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/11/2007 7:58:56 PM)

I've been meaning to ask you guys, I just got my windows tinted and all are fine exept the rear which near the top on the dot matrix the tint didn't stick so it kinda looks bad. I told the guy and he says thats how mustangs, grand prixs are he said the film doesn't stick on the dot matrix. but in some places on my car it did stick to the dot matrix. So is it true what he's saying? If so what can I do to make it not look so bad is their any tricks.

not any tricks that i know of....but it def should stick mine sticks fine...its not see through at all of course but sticks and looks good...id say take it to another shop and just ask them if they can fix it and let the guy know...

99RedStang -> RE: Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/11/2007 9:22:51 PM)

Make sure you take it to a quality tinting shop. I know when I bought my Mustang, the person who had it before me must have gotten a crappy tint job because it was peeling in the same place, at the top of the rear window.

Every mustang is like that bro.Its exactly same with mine, the top piece at the rear windhsield. The guy sanded down those dots but it still wouldnt stick perfectly.

Well the guy that did mine scraped it with some steel wool and it's been close to a year and it's still stricking pretty good, on the outside it may look funny, but on the inside it's fine.

Same problem here.....all the other windows look fine, except for that one area.....Top Gear, let me know if you find a way to fix it and about how much it costs to fix.  I've been meaning to do something about the tint, but didn't want to waste money if it was just going to happen again.  Good luck.

HornyHornyHippo -> RE: Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/12/2007 6:41:37 AM)

I loved my tinter, iv seen his work on audis and the local viper, and it was great work. he asked me if i wanted that top like 5 inches tinted or not because it tends to bubble and unpeal, so i told him not to. it looks a tiny bit off with a strip of non-tinted ness at the top, but i preffer it over bubbling tints. See: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/8/web/2480000-2480999/2480029_11_full.jpg Its kinda hard to see cuz its so bright outside, but you can see how noticable it is.

jthorn9 -> RE: Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/12/2007 8:29:42 AM)

Well as already stated, he's right, you have to sand them down a little to make the tint stick.

Top Gear -> RE: Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/12/2007 10:03:51 AM)

Yea he said some people sand them down or try glueing it down but that never works he said and the glue would melt off after awhile and leave a big mess.

I was thinking maybe if I can find some thing black and thin like black poster paper for example and cut it out and fit it over that entire strip of dot matrix if it would look good because then it would look all black and not bubbly. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

3.eight on a competitor site(if u know what i mean) sells a piece of vinyl decal that goes over the dot matrix and will stick

Yes, he did quit making stuff... but that was when he was planning on selling the Mustang and getting an Element. So, now that the Mustang is staying, he may have changed his mind. Not sure, but worth asking probably.

BTW, his name is "V_Eight" :D

Oh, and I have a peice of black vinyl over that area on mine, and I like it compared to trying to get the tint to stick to the matrix.

Just tried to find some pics of it, but can't find any where you can actually tell what it looks like :(

gvervoren -> RE: Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/22/2007 7:02:01 PM)

I just have my rear window tinted up to the dots and it looks fine. I know some people did that and then painted the window on the inside where the dot matrix is. I don't know what kind of paint they used cause I've never seen that in person.

eaglecatcher -> RE: Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/22/2007 7:15:51 PM)

on mine, the back window, the tint stopped like right at the edge of te dot matrix.  I barely noticed it at all.  I did rip all the tint off of my car though, since it was bubbled and had turned purple, so now I"m debating whether or not to tint it again. I"d love some limo on the rear and rear quarters, and then as dark as possible on the front sides,

Where did you get the black vinyl and how much was it ?

Kenyon07 -> RE: Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/22/2007 9:33:35 PM)

I just got my car tintied about two weeks ago and they guy that tinted my car does high end stuff.. My car was sittin right next to this tricked out hummer.. He also has done vipers and vetts, but anyways he told me that the top doesn't stick as well cause of that dot stuff. He said I could leave it that way or he could put some kind of glue on it and it would be a lil bit blurry, but hardly noticable and would stay there just fine. The only prob is that i dunno the stuff he used lol.

Top Gear -> RE: Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/22/2007 10:49:58 PM)

The window tinter told me people use glue but it drys up and cracks off making it look worse. So I don't think I'll do that I just want to put some thing black acrossed the top if I can't find a decal made for it I'll make my own.

Sorry... I don't know. My wife got the car tinted for me :D

1badsob_00 -> RE: Windows tinted, not happy.. (7/24/2007 5:28:36 PM)

I have a black vinyl stip going across my rear windshield. From the top to the bottom of the dots. It looks great from the outside and from the inside its hardly noticable. I recommend doing this to all of your Stangs. I had a shop tint it all the way around.... For $250 it wasnt what I was expecting.. I didnt really care for the job but I settled for it. After a while the rear where those "Matrix" dots are got on my nerves. I took it to a different shop and  the tint shop took a razor to cut out the part of the tint where the "Matrix" dots are and then cut a black strip of vinyl to match the tint she cut out. It really looks X10000 times better then not having it stick!
