Does anybody have a V6 to nominate for ride of the month? We need a classic in there.

I second, that is a nice ghia ( looks like a disco cruiser ). It is nice to see a low miles original Mustang II. All the ones around here are pretty rough.

A II is not considered a classic, but Yeah. There needs to be an original V6 Mustang represented. They couldn't pull the hat off your head, but they were the original V6's. :D

yup. i was never a big fan of the coupe II's, but i gotta admit a clean ghia would actually be a REALLY good car for a DD if it was in that kinda shape ya know?

How old does a car have to be before it is considered a classic? I thought it was 20yrs. Next year all IIs will be 30+. First gen Mustangs are all antique cars now aren't they?

classic guys will never consider them classics because they are II's..... newer guys will never consider them classics because they are II's...... we are the red headed stepchild that gets beat by the drunk boyfriend

Believe it or not, that IS starting to change, at least a bit. The more we just show up and act like we belong (without excess flaming) the more they just come to accept us.

Mind you, I'm a bit of a hippie/redneck and just joined a Crown Vic site with a definite Law Enforcement presence. Now THAT'S a bit intimidating.......I'm still getting used to how it feels in the FRONT seat for a change:D

she actually just needs the frame (rear) for the bumper the cover is in mint condition

I just bought the frame off of e-bay, it was in absolutely PERFECT condition. I was utterly shocked at how great the condition was. Don't ask me how much green I laid down for it....let's just say - I wanted it, was going to buy it, regardless of the price - foolish I know, but I've been looking for over a year for one. Now I'm no longer looking!

arent the frames usually ok? i mean even if they are rusty you could sandblast, paint, put cover on - and your good as new

Not a chance. Out of the four II's I own, three have good rear covers, but ALL FOUR have the bumper support frames rotted to the point where touching them anywhere drops bits of rust everywhere. A good kick will provide up to half a pound of piled flakes on the ground...

hahaha i have some like that under some *decent* bumper covers. i assumed a trip to the sandblaster would kick their asses. as a bonus, any metal that falls off is a weight reduction:D

if you bought that from the madman i do know how much you paid for it and that could have did alot of bodywork on my car = prep for paint and such LOL LOL

EXACTLY what my problem was. The craziest thing about it is the fact that there is NO RUST anywhere else to be found on the thing. It had the ZBart treatment way back when, everything else on the car was in super condition, but that bracket was horrible. If I breathe on it rust just flakes away! LOL!

Yep got it from the madman! Wife asked how much....I asked why she needed another pair of shoes - conversation ended there - LOL! Just joking, she's been very supportive during my most recent affliction. It used to be a 66 Chevy C-10, now it's a 78 Mustang II, I think the II is working out MUCH better. I learned a lot of lessons from the 66, a lot "Don't make this mistake again" lessons.
Thankfully I don't have many more "must have" items.....there are some "would like to have items" but not not anything that you could call show stopping.

Humm, I never though of them as anything but a classic, and I've owned/own nearly all (but those mammoth 71-73's, and not because I don't like the style, just too large for my tastes).

The style of the 74 was "retro" before retro became popular. Brought back the side sculpture, the size, the grill style. If this came out in 94 with 94 tech power trains, it would have been more popular than it was back in the 70's.

I also disagree with them being the second generation. Again, I pick on the 71-73's for this. 65-70 allused the same basic chassis, some minor modifications but pretty muchFalcon based all along.

71 started using the Torino chassis.Based on this and the deviation in style from the "pure" 65 look, I feel this is a valid argument that the II is the third generation, again, based on the new platform (arguably Pinto based, but "better", like the Cougar wascompared to the Mustang).

Still, I like 'em all, and yes, they are going for more. Lately I have seenthe nicecoupes, not even Ghia's, gofor close to 6K on theBay, where just a year or so ago they were lucky to get much over 3K.

Ignorance of the '71-'73. Heavier suspension, with the Torino borrowing the frontfrom the then-new Mustang. The chassis is not the same, which goes for the rear coils on the Torino suspension. And the dimensions of the '71-'73have more in common with the '69/'70 than the '69/'70 has with the '65/'66. The body style is the first (and only?) Italian designed Mustang....same guy that designed some Ferrari's was in charge of that body. They were also the only Mustangs specificaly designed to hold a big-block, as earlier cars were modified to make the big-block fit. The '71-'73 Mustangs look a lot bigger than they really are.

The Deuce was the first time the actual chassis was actually changed...then in '79 with the Fox. The next real change was then 2005 ('94 and '99 saw primarily chassis stiffening features, and not really a new chassis).
