Ok so i have the basic sound system in my Stang, and i always have loved sound systems, nothing to bass-y or excessive, just a nice sound system.  Now i know the stangs with the upgraded sound system have the extra speakers in the door.  I was wonderin if i could buy a door panel from somewhere with the speaker hole in it (instead of cutting a whole in my current door panel) and put that on instead of my panels, and then go ahead and wire up speakers to it.  Anyone done it, or know if it can be done? Anyone know where i could buy these panels?

I've looked all around for them myself, they aren't very easy to find either. Hell, i've only seen a few sets on ebay and usually the are priced way more than i'm trying to give for them. God knows how much the dealership will want for them.

you might try the dealership...  yes, most items seem to be way over priced.. but every once in a while  i'm surpised how reasonable some things are priced..

You do not really need to have the upgraded door panel with the extra speaker to get a better sound.  If you do not use cheap 5X7/6X8 speakers with a good external amp, you can get a sweet sounding system.  I used Infinity reference speakers in mine, and IMO it sounds better than the Shaker system speakers.  The infinity reference and the Alpine R series fit the limited clearance of the front door.  In the back you can use the Infity Kappa series and both the Alpine R and S.  Also, a good compnent system will work in your doors as well.  You will just need to drill a hole where you want the tweeter put.

Good Luck,

Mark

Linesman, i have the infinity reference speakers that i will be puttin in the back? should i change them to the kappa series? and also i get what your sayin about jus using quality speakers, but my problem is i have the basic door panels with no holes for speakers for the front, and i want speakers there.  So i was wondering how to get the door panels with the holes for the speakers? but i really appreciate all the info you gave me, i take it where ever i can get it?

I can not tell you where to get the upgraded door panels from, but the standard front door panel has a 5X7/6X8 speaker behind it in front of the door opener latch.  If you take the panel off, you will see where the speaker goes (non-component, meaning woofer and seperate tweeter).  The panel also has an integrated grill for that speaker, no mods required.  The infinity reference fits real well.  As far as the rear, I like the reference better than the kapppa series, so IMHO stay with the reference.

Good Luck,

Mark
