Default It actually saddens me.

Chevrolet,. wtf is going on? The 4.6 Mustang is keeping pace with the SS models with ALUMINUM 5.3s. Kudos to ford on a really decent horsepower output on such a little engine. 2008 Impala SS: 303 HP, 2007 GT Mustang: 300.

Savor your Catfish SS.

all I know is that I haven't once missed my 400HP 02 T/A since I've been in my lil 300HP GT.

HP isn't everything. There's a reason the Camaro and the Firebird were killed off. Total sh!t cars except for the motor. If you want the Impala, have at it, but don't compare a FWD Sedan to a Mustang. The Camaro is only coming back because GM is losing so much money, but it still won't save them - they'll screw it up like they did last time.

Kthxbye.

Actually, the new Camaro looks awesome in both exterior, interior and power. However; I believe its price and 'fanciness' is going to make it appealing to a much smaller market, such as older men who will buy it as an alternative to the pricier Corvette. It won't save GM at all, but it will be a success in its own right.... The various models of Stang will still be the only true mass numbered road warrior.

don't forget about mopar getting back in the action too with the challenger.... sweet looking car - but same argument as above... with IRS and all the "fanciness" as was stated above, it'll be 30-35k car minimum in a niche market.

GM's been hit or miss with the past few years. They made a few semi-cool cars (Pontiac Solstice comes to mind) but then they made them underpowered dogs.

The GTO has the potential to be a monster muscle car, but again, GM dogged it by making it look like a Grand Prix. When I look at the two, I have to look twice for the hood scoops and the GTO badging.

The new Camaro, I won't miss that - to me, the exterior's a giant eyesore. It looks like a Cadillac CTS and a '67 Camaro had a love tryst and gave birth to that monstrosity. There's a reason the 1st gen Camaros appeal to people over all of the others - it's a classic look.

The Dodge Challenger, if made with a V6 option, could be a potential threat to the Mustang's popularity(without numbers like curb weight, hp, etc. I couldn't say whether it'd beat the Mustang in a race). It's got a GREAT classic retro look without looking like it merged. But, it's now in the air as to whether the Challenger will even be BUILT, since Chrysler Corp. was sold off to Cerberus and is now privately owned, instead of being merged with Daimler-Benz.

One of the reasons the Mustang is still going strong is that it's a car that has had a following, much like the Corvette, throughout all of its various iterations. With the exception of the Mustang II (and it seems like EVERY car company had a body style in the 70'sthat we wish could be eliminated), every one of the body styles has kept a large popularity rating.

What's the pointof an Impala having 300+hp??? If I'm looking to buy a family sedan, I'll be looking for fuel economyNOT horsepower...Are they trying to take over the policecar market -or- doesChevy just like to throw their "SS" badge on everything.

I'm impressed with my Mustang. It's every bit as quick as my '00 TA was and handles way better too.

The problem with both the Challenger and the Camaro is not what they will be, I'm quite sure that they will both be very capable and very able to whip a Mustang GT, the problem is that they will only sell a handful of them at a price of about $40-45K. The key to success is whether they can sell a boatload of V6s at 20-25K. That's the reason the Mustang is still a success and both of those other cars are just a dream right now.
