Like I said before..........Shelby GT.....only a select few will own them, Mustang GT..........any ding dong can own one, and then bash Shelby's because they don't have one and they sport a small penis.

Um, I own a GT, and I autocross a Shelby.  I like both cars very, very much.  Yes, you can buy a GT and put the parts (or other parts) on it, but it's not a Shelby.  And as has been pointed out, only the Shelby GT is a "real" Shelby, the GT500 is not.  The car I drive is number 450.  Yes, it cost about $38k out the door.  $1000 of that was gas-guzzler tax that a normal GT doesn't pay.  My GT was about $24k out the door.  I could make my GT the same thing, or even faster for far less money.  But my GT doesn't get looks like the Shelby does, and will never has the resale value either.

Bottom line, you have options.  Pick your poison.

Yeah, go autocrossing.  The Shelby and certain GT's are very competitive.  F-stock @ Solo Nationals was stacked with Shelby's (I won, woo-hoo).  I think '06+ GT's with 3.55's are competitive because you can run the 18" wheels, and they actually slalom better.  Shelby's sweeper better.  6 of one, half-dozen of the other.  The power difference is really not an issue as it's quite small.

I like seeing cars like this being used for what they are meant to do.  I hate when you see a Shelby GT or a Z06 just being driven around.  It's a waste of a great performing car.  And you can find an autocross about anywhere you live.  Pay your $25, drive as hard as you want and get to use some of the handling the car offers.

not bad.
I'd be afraid of someone crashing into it.

It must remind you of how things were in the 60's when GT350's were all over the tracks and whooping a$$.

I was initially unimpressed with the Shelby GT. Then I was driving home from a gig in Michigan and a black one rolled by me on the left. It looked damn good! Now that I've read more of the details, I'm really getting the hots for one. They've basically already done everything I would do to a GT. I know I could get it all done for less, but in the long run, resale value will NO DOUBT be higher on a stock SGT than a modded GT. And it's a SHELBY! Plus, turns out that a friend of a very good friend of mine owns a couple of local Ford stores. They've got a white '07 SGT, and a couple of black ones. If I can get the right deal, that white one is MINE! Otherwise, I'll probably be ordering a Vista Blue GT Premium..... Great cars all around.

-1...for now.

Take a peak on Auto Trader.  I found several lightly used GT-500's here are the prices of just a few:

$49.9k
$49.5k
$48.5k
$47.9k
$45.6k

A quick search on Autotrader.com found two used Shelby GT's, both with extremely low each one $35k.  I found at least a half a dozen that were in the upper $30k range.

Point being, the price on the Shelby GT's and GT-500's are coming down.  There are plenty of dealers that still want Corvette prices for a Shelby GT, but a quick check on the internet found many that are getting close to MSRP.  Remember, even though it's a real Shelby (I guess I'm too young to care about the name), it's still just a Mustang GT at heart.

Hang on for a few months or a year and you might be paying as much for a used GT-500 as others are paying for a Shelby GT today.
