Default 351 Engine Wear????

So If you get a used engine .... 1969 to be specific..

what kind of engine wear are you looking at ?

what kind of horsepower loss ? and torque loss ?

i think it was stock rated 290 hp 385 lb torque for that year...

but now a days .. what can i expect?

Look for skirt wear on the pistons and stem wear on the valves. With rail guided rockers you can't afford to have a short stem.

Depends on how well it was taken care of, how many miles were put on it...has it been sitting for a while?Has itbeen rebuilt? But an engine is an engine, and although it may have lower numbers than it did the day it rolled out of the factory, it's not going to be significantly lower because of age.

Hmm ok .. Well i heard it already had been rebuilt .

But i dont know if it was dyno'ed .

the seller was mis informed . as he told me it had 280 hp .

So im guessing it was just a typo.

but umm with a new aluminum intake manifold and carb ..

should i be close to 300?

Probably- what kind of carb? And if it's been rebuilt, they might have put some stuff into it that you didn't know about, like a cam or something.

Low compression indicates wear; either the rings or valves. Basic engine diagnosics...get a book for details or maybe someone else will chime in.
