if youre trying to transform text, you have to rasterize the layer first.

yeah i tried that, still doesn't work. I have CS if that matters....

well what do you mean by depth? during free transform mode: holding Ctrl stretches and skews holding Alt expands contracts image holding Shift shrinks/enlarges image proportionally holding Ctrl + Alt + Shift expands/contracts one side of the selected area (can be used to make images appear on a 3d scale).

By depth I mean "appear on a 3d scale" I tried Ctrl+Alt+Shift but I can only get to skew proportionally (horizontal and vertical), but I can't figure out how to expand/contract one side Thanks btw

You need to use the distort tool. What version you running?

I'm not sure if it's in 8.0, if it is though it would be in the same list as the skew, transform etc...

AHA! Found it Had to rasterize so its not grayed out, and then its in a seperate command from "free transform" Thanks for the help
