I have a black car and the hood and bumper needs to be repainted. There are lots of white "specks" on it from something hitting the hood and bumper. It would too time consuming to use a touch up bottle and probably look like it had dimples.
My question is should I have the whole car repainted so everything matches or just the hood and bumper? There are a few places that could use some touch up paint but overall it won't look as good as a brand new paint job.
I was also thinking about using metalic black instead of plain stock black and then accent the car with stainless steel inserts on the hood and side scoops so it kinda blends together. Then of course use the stainless steel inserts on the bumper.
I would use touch up paint and then buff it out really well. If you have knicks and specks on the car they will keep coming back. The only way you wont get them is if you dont drive the car that often. If you repaint the car or parts of the car itll be a waste because you will just keep getting kinicks and "specks" again. And if you paint it then your gonna be hella anal and get pissed off whenever something hits your car. But hey its just my opinion. Since your car is black you wont really be able to tell that it was touched up if you take your time and do it right, and then buff it out. But hey if you want to repaint it go ahead its your car do what you want. But I would keep that in mind.

It all depends on how well the rest of the paint is. because if the front is repainted then it might not match the rest. How much extra would it cost to do the other half of the car. Also if yo are gonna paintit why try to touch it up first to see how it comes out. Are thes white marks chips? if so a good way to fix that is take touch up and use a toothpick and add just a tiny drop at a time just in the chip... see how that looks somewhere thats not noticable first.
I would just paint them..unless your loking at the car from top view you could never tell unless the paint on the rest of the car is just wore out....sounds like time for a fiberglass hood..when doing the bumper remove it off the car so no over spray is on the rad etc. makes for a clean car and no one will think it's been wrecked
I would check you car in the sunlight and see if the paint is faded (you usually can not tell if your car is in the shade). If your gonna have only the hood and bumper painted make sure the painter uses a ford black paint or something close.

You got me pegged there, but who wouldn't be after getting their car painted. I can deal with a few here and there but this is awful.
To give you an idea of what my car looks like. Imagine a lot of bugs hitting it and leaving white freckles all over the bumper and hood. I'll look at it again and see if it's really nicks in the paint. I'm pretty sure it is.
One of the above responses indicated to paint it and then buff the paint. What do I buff the car with? Sorry, all this is new to me.
I'll eventually get a pro to look at it and see what can be done. Thanks to all of you who responded to my question.
It all depends on what you want out of the car and what you can afford too man. It might cost you $500 to paint both bumpers. But to get your whole car painted in some shops might cost you around $3000 depending on what shop you go to. Does the rest of the car really need it that bad? And how much is the car worth to you. A paintjob is a pretty big deal. You gotta ask yourself do you want to change the color? how long are you keeping it for? Also if you do get it painted, before you even drive it: I would go to your insurance company and get how much the new paintjob cost insured. You don't want to do what I did. Paint a whole car sonic blue then 3 days later have someone broadside you and have it totaled only to loose everything you put into it. Just a thought.
I just want the front to look nice. Everything else I can live with. I'll try some of the touch ups first I guess. Then see how it looks. I just don't want to waste time or money.
yeah i would definetly try and touch it up, although i dont see how hard it would be to match the black that you have and does black really fade that much?

Well, the person who had my Mustang before me blew up the engine or something, so my hood is pretty shot ('97 Pacific Green).
They plan on just painting the hood and blending it into the fenders. That job will cost me about $340. So, to paint the hood and bumper may be worth it to you -- would you rather have flecky paint or the $$?
However, my bumper is really flecky looking too, but that doesn't bother me, it's really just the hideous hood.
