that's for sure MD..I do about every 5k.....your wasting $$$$ and oil doing syth @ 3k.....now when I buy a new car I change oil filter @ 250 miles then change oil @ 500..then 1k then 2500 then 7500 then every 5k. reson I do this is sometimes new engines will have casting flash that break loose. don't make the oil companies richer than the are. when oil is changed @ 5k using syth. it costs you no more than using reg. oil and changing @ 3k so a great benifit to you @ basically no more cost! with added gas mileage and 1-2% more hp..so it's free hp..what a deal huh?

I change mine every 3000 miles. I just like to keep it there and save all the reciepts. Makes for good sell when you wanna trade it in or sell it through a private buyer.
jd..all your doing is wasting $$$$ and our oil resource I don't think MD even changes his oil...I bet VS has to do it

Normally every 3000.. but since I just got this car, I havent even changed its oil yet! Well.. the car lot I purchased from, did change it before they let me drive off..
But if every 3k, it's got about 700 left till it needs to be changed. I'll probably end up using a Synthetic blend.

usually every 3k with my truck (conventional), but prolly every 6k or so with the stang cause im putting in synthetic when im done with the engine. my grandpa only does it every like 12k miles on his mercedes S-class. that is what they suggest! pretty crazy what synthetic oils can do.
I change mine every 3k b/c i saw the s*** that came out when i change the oil the first day i got the car, and i dont even want to know how long it had been before an oil change

1) I change mine every 1500 miles 2) I lied, I don't change it in my mustang because it leaks oil 3) I lied again, I change it in the mustang every 3.5k miles 4) I changed the oil in my TT PGT every 2.5k miles 5) I never use synthetic oil b/c I am a cheap mofo 6) I like to change it around 3k because I like to keep fresh additives in it + the more milage on the oil, the more acids, dirt, & sludge can build up 7) Another important thing to consider when deciding oil change intervals is how often you change oil filter 8) It is a bad idea to switch from minteral oil to synthetic or visa versa 9) You can never change your engine oil too frequently. The more you do it, the longer the engine will last. I mean comon, look at my mustang, I bought it with 71k miles on it, I put it up to 89k miles now it's broken.

you are somewhat confused it seems.....no need to add any additives.....it's not bad to change from reg oil to syth then back....why would you use reg oil unless you have a leak?.....the filter is the most important thing using those cheap ass fram and the like.....with today overdrive transmissions 100k on any type oil is the norm now....if you use syth 150k should be no problem what so ever.....the car manufactures have this 100k burnt in our brain that the car is wore out..why?.. they want you in a new car or they go broke ....

It is a bad idea switching because your engine might not be able to cope with the degradation in lubrication. By degradation i mean the wear tolerances that an engine develops based on the oil that it's using. Thicker mineral oils mean thicker layers of oil coating the moving parts (by microns though). Switching to a thinner synthetic oil can cause piston rings to leak and in some rare cases, piston slap or crank vibration. & If you've been driving around with mineral oil in your engine for years, don't switch to synthetic oil without preparation. Synthetic oils have been known to dislodge the baked-on deposits from mineral oils and leave them floating around your engine...not good. When switching to synthetic from mineral it is a good idea to use a flushing oil first.

I use Mobile 1 on mine..it ussually cost me around 45 bucks at autozone for everything and heck..i ussually change my oil every 2 months or so and i hardly drive it.But all ive gota say is..a clean engine it a happy engine
all oils have detergents to help clean the engine...lessing any deposits......that's why a quality filter is a must.....if you have clean oil after say 1k miles than your oil isn't working.....as for the tolorances that is mute after the engine is started and new oil is circulated. as for syth. being thinner is just not true..it carries the same wt but doesn't thicken like reg oil does. when cold.a great benefit in start up

Also they say to change oil every 3000 mile or 3 months. The 3 months is because once gas is mixed with the oil ( in the cumbustion chamber ) its no good for the oil. Thats why it is better to change the oil when winterizing/ puttig the car a way for the winter.
Everyone has there own beliefs....
first of all, oil companies recommending service at three months has nothing to do with oil and gas mixing in the combustion chamber. if you have oil in your combustion chamber, your piston rings are bad and that's a very bad thing. (it means you'll need a rebuild, or at least new rings)
and when storing a car, it's best to DRAIN all the fluids, not change them.

I am aware of the oils having detergents & that black oil means not that the oil is bad, but has cleaned the engine aswell as good filters being a must, mabey even magnets on the filter to catch some pieces of metal the filter misses. My information on oil is coming from auto class in a section on oils & here. Have a look C.
