V6 Rev problem

Hey, I thinkI may have a problem.I havea 2000 v6,this afternoon I was revving my engine everything was smooth until I hit 4,000 rpmthen my engine kinda shakes andthe car sounds like it's back firing but without the "bang".. I think it may be an exhaust problem...maybe to muchback pressure?I'm not really sure whatthe problem is, anyway,my car is used and had62,000 miles whenI purchased it.

Just throwing this out there, but maybe it's the rev limiter. It works by cutting fire to individual cylinders once the max rpm is reached, so it sounds like what you're describing.

I don't know what the limit in park or at zero speed is, though. It's less than when you're moving.

I recently found out the problem, there is nothing wrong with the engine. I heard it had something to do with the car's chip from the factory. It limits the revs to 4,400? in a non accelerating state.

Like I mentioned in my post above, I noticed it...sitting in a parking lot in Park playing with the throttle. It DOES start cutting out just past 4000. I've owned a Chevy like that too. Different rev limits depending on moving or stopped, in gear or out. Kind of limits your sounding off the pipes unless you're rolling, though.

MDVALDOSTA and VFAST, I'll bet you've never noticed the limiter because you never put your cars in park! Always pedal down! Ha!
