I took the lug nuts off do you need ALOT of force to get it to swing down? Do i need to remove the tie rods?

you dont need to remove tie rod ends, but that thing is probably ON there - so its going to need some coaxing

I got the rack loose but now i ran into another problem

the Oil pan is in the way and i can get it off the full way. should i drain the oil and take the pan off? While i'm at it i could sand the rust off and paint it.

you'll never get that pan off the car with it in there........ as for the rack,

again, i never did it that way, i always took the motor mount off but if its rusted and your scared to break a bolt that puts you in a stickey situation.

73 sportroof, input on this situation?

nvm... the pan is not in the way, i figured out that theres a little rubber part that can bend pass it, however the pinion is holding the right side up. do i have to remove that now?

I am trying to remember. I did that 13 years ago and I don't own one now. I don't remember having any problem, that is why I suggested it.
I never removed anything else. I just remember swinging it down and it was hanging on the rods. I don't think I had it off the ground, the only jack I had was the stock one and I didn't trust it in the dirt. If yours is off the ground maybe the front end is in a bind hanging there. I hope it works out for you. Let us know.

HALLELUJAH!!!!! I got that Son of B**** out of there!! Thank you guys for all your great help and thanks for responding within hours. Now I'm gonna take it to the shop and get the motor rebuilt or should i replace it. I heard Jasper Engines is pretty good, any opinions?

oh boy, thats a whole nother thread LOL

but yeah, if your wanting a stock replacement motor jasper is a very good company...... problem is for the price they will charge you can get something with alot more pep

Good to hear, did the rack finaly swing down for you? Did you have to set the car back on the gound or did it just need a little coaxing.( large blunt object and a few choice words.)
