Got the Cd. Chapter 21 (or 23), " 120, 130, 150, She's gone!"

I like the original better. Something about the fact that H.B. Halicki beat the crap out of that car, broke his back doing one of the jumps, and when the movie's almost over, swaps it in a car wash...Great flick, and perhaps one of the best car chases EVER recorded (better than Bullitt's Charger/Mustang chase).

Last of the Mustangs. Last of the V8s. Eleanor. The original car chase was 40 min long. There is one part in it that the car is almost out of gas and a few seconds later it is almost full. Fun movie. I found a copy on vhs in a bargain bin in 1994. I had never heard of it before, but it had a 73 jumping through a billboard on the cover so I had to get it. I got the dvd special edition that they released after the new one came out. I wonder when they will remake Smokey and the Bandit? Two lane blacktop, C.B.s and a truck load of Coors. I don't think it could happen now, it would have to be in the 70s.

I like the original and the remake as well. I think in the original, when he smacked the pole, he suffered some serious injuries. No computer animation in that one. Thats gotta hurt.

Take a closer look at the scene with the helo. He is turning like 6000 rpm and doing about 90 mph by the gauges, then he hits he nitrous button and runs up to 160mph. I didnt know a 427 could turn 12,000 rpm. There are other goofs in that flick, but that one stands out. I guess its the observational skill the military taught me, and the background in automotive technology/engineering/racing that prevents me from enjoying something that is obviously based in fantasy. I have a tough time with military movies that have technical inaccuracies also, so it isnt just this movie. All the Fast and Fictitious movies grate on me, and insult my intelligence.. :) Thankfully I saw them free in the desert. Gone in 60 seconds is an ok movie and the car is sorta interesting, but not a great movie. Bullit has a nice chase scene but the rest of the movie is boooooooring. I am a cynical bastige anyway.
