I just read a letter in Hemmings about someone say how you can order options on cars nowadays but the magazine folks corrected him because you can only ADD options to cars not neccessarily DELETE them.
The Mustang is a great example. There are tons of options when it comes to adding things like wheels & tires, interior colors, radios, appearance packages, etc. But the only thing you can delete is the rear spoiler on the GT and the stripes on the GT500.
Given the ability to do so how many people would delete the Shaker 500? Everyone, right? I'd love to be able to delete that and get a credit. Or how about deleting the rear seat? I'd do that in a heartbeat!
Unfortunately, that would raise the price for everyone else. Ford, by having rear seats in all the cars, pays a lower price for the parts it uses. If the Pirellis were deletable, then whoever got them would pay more than they do now. Pirelli would see fewer tires required by Ford and would raise their price.
By buying in huge quantities and installing all these parts in all the cars, they keep the prices down. Remember when power windows and door locks were an option? Not if your under 18! But by making them standard equipment they keep the overall price lower.

I assume you mean you have to have the Shaker 500 in the GT500.  (not required on the GT)

One reason I don't like GT500... Shaker and its big ugly "in the way" door panel speakers.

GT is cleaner, GT500 is "busy", yeah a bit faster but twice the price.  GT is plenty fast enough on the street and at the track the GT500 is no prize for the money.  JMHO
