hey everyone, long time since i been here, anyways just sold my 04 v6 stang a couple of months ago, pretty sad to let her go but im set on buying a 2007 or 2008 V8 by the end of july. My old stang was an auto, and im debating whether my new one should be auto or stick, my friends keep telling me to get stick, but im not shure about. Anyone here can give me their opinions on what I should buy? Thanks to anyone that takes their time to give me their feedback.
It is a matter of personal prefference, I live in "Bumper to Bumper Land" so my daily driver is a nice comfy AUTO SUV that gives me 6 MPG (because of the trafic) and for fun I drive my manual GT. If you are all out performance, or enjoy driving for fun you want a manual, if you want performance + comfort or do a lot of city driving, a GT auto will serve you well.

Who will be driving your new stang, you or your friends? Get what you want, let them buy what they want. I've owned a lot of manual shift cars over the years. I kinda like them. But for a daily driver, I would have to seriously consider the auto, especially in heavy traffic and over hilly terrain. Maybe a good idea would be to borrow a manual shift car from one of your "friends" and drive it to work and back for a week or so to see if it is enjoyable or just a pain in the left leg. Then you will be better able to make an informed decision.

+1 I really like this idea the best.

All depends on what you want man, both perform well and can perform equally when modded right in the 1/4 , if you like flying around corners a manual will be better, Its all about the fun factor for a manual

I just learned to drive stick and now my mustang is stick, and i love it, as long as it's not stop and go traffic, i'd get a manual, i have fun with it, and it keeps my mom away from it because she cant drive stick

Well, I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I would get a stick regardless of the traffic. Now, keep in mind, I've been driving manual trans cars for most of the last 23 years. I used to drive an hour to work and it was a 19 mile trek. I never minded having a manual. The manual will get slightly better mileage and I prefer driving a manual in inclement weather. It's all a matter of preference though.
I have a manual and it getts driven on the weekends. Durimg the week I have a automatic. If I had to drive the mustang everyday, it wouldn't be a stick.

wow thanks everyone for your feedback, after thinkin about it i guess ima go with the auto since i do live in Boston and traffic is bad out here. anyone know what the difference in quartermile times is between a stick and auto mustang gt? juss outta curiousity
I too agonized over this decision before I picked up my 07 Mustang GT a few weeks ago. I live in New York City, ( midtown-Manhattan). Traffic and pedestrians jay-walking can be quite challenging to drive a stick. There have been many times these past 2 weeks when I have been stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and I tell myself " I made the right choice". Car is still a lot fun to drive in an automatic, this is a big decision and only you can make the right one. You're friends can say what they want, but ultimately it is you that will be driving and living with the vehicle. Best of luck.

I lived in LA with a stick and i guess i got use to it there... so i bought another constant driving in houston and dallas areas for work ... so like everyone else said ... get what you want ... doesn't matter you'll enjoy it either way
this is my 6th mustang, and first auto, i did not want a auto at first but could not find a black stick vert so i got the auto. yes i miss shifting gears sometimes but the auto is great in traffic and with a tune from brenspeed it will bark 2nd and 3rd. auto is not bad afterall.

I believe because of the power transfer, you will lose more hp to the wheels with an auto more than with a manual, so the 1/4 will be slower. But if you buy a shift kit and a stall converter, you can still have fun revving freely (depends on rpm the converter is rated at) and you will have near perfect shifts everytime.
I too wanted a stick since all of my previous cars were sticks, but none were available with all of the options I wanted. I have to say it is nice having an auto as a daily driver. By the way, if you turn O/D off and shift through the gears manually, you will not miss a whole lot but it takes a little getting used to.

kinda the same story here.... I live in LA where the traffic is horrible....it takes me over an hour to drive 15 miles home at night.. but, i went with the stick. I am so used to driving a manual (8 years now) that it does not bother me at all. I don't even recognize what I am doing anymore.
