Don't flame me yet for having a V6! Read the post!:D

Theres this guy I know that is selling his 2001 SVT Cobra 'Vert with a few mods, nothing really worth listing. The car has 83,000 miles on the clock, and he was asking $12,500 ... I talked him down to $10,000. The paint on the car is flawless except for the hood, which for one reason or another was repainted and done fairly poorly. It's chipped in a few places. Other than that, the interior is clean (although the leather is SLIGHTLY worn). The car is black with a PB top, and black interior. Car looks pretty sharp, but is $10,000 too much for a 2001 Cobra 'Vert with 83,000 miles?

Nope, I think $10K is about right.

And would it be wise to sell my 2002 V6 and use the Cobra as a DD even with that many miles on it? How many miles before that engine craps out???

depends 100% on how poorly maintained and abused it has been througout its life. If its been taken care of, you shouldnt have a problem DD'ing it.

+1. If it was maintained properly then 83,000 is nothing for a 4v motor. Cobras are great DD's.

Well he's never brought the car to the track or anything, but we all know that he has gotten on the car often since it is a Cobra after all, lol. So 10,000 is about the right price? And how much would it cost to get the hood re-painted the right way, and the drivers seat leather fixed (nothing big, just a little faded on the side)?

I would say its worth it. The engine is built to be pushed we mean maintained as in oil changed ever 3k and that kind of stuff.

Alright, so I'm new to this whole loan thing ... Do I take out the $10,000 loan, sell my car, and then pay the whole thing back after the car sale? I have the money to straight up buy it, but I don't want to spend $10,000 all at once. I was thinking take out the loan, sell the car, pay back the difference between the car sale and the loan.

I'm trying to ... For some reason I suck at the whole online car purchase thing, and have lost out on 3 cars in the past 2 months ... Not planning on letting this one go if I have anything to say about it. I believe I was interested in your 2004 GT a long time ago right? Was it the auto?

To get the hood properly painted (stripped, sanded, sweat, primed, painted, cleared) it'll run you anywhere from $500-$800 depending on where you go and who you know.

As far as a bank loan I'dtake out 12-13 cause you gotta remember registering it and paying tax on it.

Gotcha. I suppose I'll take out a $13,000 loan then. Maybe I would be better off just talking him into waiting until my car sells?

You would be better off selling your car first, THEN looking to buy a cobra.

Dont bother talking him into waiting, cause he wont and hes really not entitled to. If you want to buy the car you should have the money to do so up front, you know what I mean?

Sell your car first. The less money you have to take out from the bank the better. A V6 in the condition yours is in will sell in no time.

I wouldnt sell it to a dealership though, you wont get your moneys worth.

Got it. Got 3 people interested in the car for $8500, whereas the dealership wanted to give me $5000 ... Trust me, I know :).

Well, me and him have come to agreement so far on the price of $10000, I suppose I'll call him and ask when he wants to do the deal to see if I have any time to sell the car.

Yea, that was me. I was wondering what happened to you the past few months since I hadnt seen you post much. If you can get that cobra, and its in good shape... your getting a steal. Worst case scenario would be to sell your car to a Carmax place, they tend to do you a lilbetter than dealerships. If you can sell it outright to someone, do it soon. You wont find many deals like this one.

Yea, sorry I wasn't too interested in getting an auto. Car was gorgeous though. As for Carmax, I don't think I've ever seen one in New Orleans ... I guess I'll look them up, but I absolutely need it to be gone by next Saturday. On next Saturday we are meeting up in Baton Rouge and doing the deal if I get my car to sell since he will be out of town for a week. Hoping to be able to post that I've joined the SVT team on Sunday ... :D

Question is, is do you owe anything on your V6?? If not, and you can handle the car payment, dont worry about waiting, use the V6 as a DD until you get it sold and leave it at that...

The milage isn't to bad, but it is high. Just watch it - and dont be niave, just because he says he hasn't raced it and what not, doesn't mean it wasn't built and put back to stock which A LOT of Cobra owners do...

No, I bought the V6 cash a few years back. The V6 is paid for. I was actually going to use the V6 as a DD until it sold at first, but I figured it would be best to not go through a bank for this ... If worst comes to worst next week and I have to take out a loan its not like it'll be a huge deal. The car is drawing a lot of interest at $8500, but no one has bit yet. And yes, that is completely correct ... I'm actually worried that there is something he isn't telling me. So far this car seems to be a great buy needed a small bit of TLC (Hood, front leather) ... I don't see anything wrong from the pictures he sent me, would you like me to post them up for the Cobra experts?

Hey man, That's a beautiful cobra for $10k. I was reading your initial post though, and I can't beleive nobody thought to mention anything on the hood. I would be REAL sure that car was never overheated if I were you. Overheating an engine will screw up paint really bad, for some reason, I get the feeling that's what's going on here. Did you ask him about it? Check underneath for rusty clamps or hoses, that's a good indicator. That car is 2 years newer than my 99 and my hood is flawless. Just thought I'd mention it... Good luck.

well he has what looks like a short shifter and definatly has an intake... not sure what else he does or doesn't have from the pictures...

Worse comes to worse you take out a loan for approx 12k, drive your sixxer for a month or two, then make a fat payment on the Cobra loan - and just quickley pay it off... hey if nothing else it helps your credit, lol.

Very true. This is what I was going to do in the first place, but I figured a loan would just be an unnecessary burden on me. I'll have to mull this over tomorrow, the whole building credit thing could come in handy I suppose.

Also, lets just say I have a friend that's buying a 2001 Cobra 'vert, and the guy that owns the Cobra put a worm in his ear saying that he'd be willing to tell the people writing up the bill of sale that the car has a bum trans or something and I bought it for $1000 to lower the price of tax ... Should my friend consider this option?

well technically it's illegal, but I have bought a few cars for $1.00 from people...... hey 7% of 10k is $700.00 its a lot of money, lol

:D

What'd you have them write up in the bill of sale? And if tax is only $700 I'd pay it, but if it's in the 2-3k range my friend might consider other avenues. :D

Sorry, didn't see this post originally. All I would have to look for is rusty clamps and hoses? He said the owner before him had the hood changed and painted poorly for some reason, but that's all he could provide me. Said the Carfax is clean, but I'd really like to get a Carfax on it for myself ...
