Ok, now being my ole V6 buds, i need your opinion. Its come down to crunch time, Ive got two cars Im interested in, but they have what the other doesnt (im going to check out the camaro today). First the beauty.

Personally I wouldn't go with either. They're both fugly. And I'm not a Chevy hater. I'm a GM mechanic, actually. I'd look for a first gen Camaro. Everything after those look like poo. Or if you can find a Chevelle or something. Even if it's a POS they're not hard to work on.

I don't like either one, but if I had to choose it would defintely be the Camaro, IMO. The Malibu may be powerful, but it looks like a P.O.S.

the maro will probably make a better DD, but fast and 70s/80s camaros dont go together
car is basically a stock 350, those years put out no more power then my LO3 car, and are a little bit heavier, basically, you have a low 16 second "monster"[8D]

Well, heres my report on the all to pos Camaro... The guy lied me into coming out.... It had a nice engine, nice glasspack exhaust.. loud as a muther... BUT the body wasnt fit for me to **** on.... It had a hole taken out of the body and i could see into the panel... the tail light was almost gone... stratched up.. dented.. rims were rusted cragars... and the interior.. oooooh boy... it had not head liner... the RED interior was gone to ****.. it was baaaaaad.... worst of all tho it didnt have power brakes.... wtf is up with that? and ive driven in cars w/o power brakes ONCE and they stopped with a little more effort than one with power brakes... but this.. this was like trying to stop the car like fred flintstone.. i had to pump pump and pump some more... The guy didnt tell me this until after i had started driving it... and i found the hard way it didnt have pwr brakes.... lol now dont flame me, technically its not my fault since he didnt tell me.. but i backed into a toyota lol. [8D]I was turning around to head it back to his house and i pressed the brakes and he goes oh yah no power brakes, pump. So i start pumping but nothing was happening so i turn sharp and avoid the lexus... (thank god) but it was too late... WHAM... right into a early 90s camry... now it was kind of funny in a way.. and i was upset when it happened.. but now i reflect and laugh.. The guy was selling it for 3500... it was a low 2000 mid 1000 dollar car... so what if it was a "classic" with a V8.. So, i had to pay 200 for the "damage" or lack there of.. to his metal block of ****.. (which had a minor scratch.. nothing new to this car... but the camry was FUUUUUUUUUCKED lol... but i felt bad so i left a card... theres a nother 1000 or so for a new bumper and quarter panel for a camry.. aaahhh what a beautiful day [8D].... But i come to find... most camaros of the 70s had PBs... this guys car was just a **** wagon...

why not get an SN95 5.0? those can be had for quite a reasonable price. wouldn't even be that much to insure. an older 70s camaro is going to get burned by some NA 4cyl cars on the road now a days :D

Well read the whole thing, sucks what happened to you. Just as I told you, old cars don't have all the advantages of new cars, hense why they put the newer stuff into them. An old V8 is good for only a couple of things.
1.) Bragging rights, in other words just saying that you have a classic muscle car.
2.) Building serrious drag cars. Carb systems, while outdated by modern standards, make excellent drag cars, but aren't the best for a DD.
3.) Being a money pit as they're guranteed to eat up every dollar you earn.
As we've all stated, I hope this is a lesson to you to buy a new car and not an older car. You're not, and I do mean not going to find a daily drivable car that's reliable for under 10K if it's older than 25 years becauseserrious restoration has to go into them to keep them going safely and effeciently.

+1 ive been driving the 6 hitter around instead of the maro cause it just needs sooo many little things that it costs wayyy to much to fix and i can afford it, basically, its going to sit in my driveway as an "if i absolutely must go somewhere and there are no other cars here" ride until my 18th bday when i get my N/A cobra:D

Yea they're like 265 stock, but newer camaros were underrated from the factory. I know LS1 power ratings from the factory were at the wheels, so most people dont know they have 300+ stock, im not sure if thats so for LT1s or not. I think an LT1 Vs. new edge the camaro takes it, and for 4500 for one with less than 100,000 miles thats not too bad.

Im still in the market for classic/notchbacks/edgeGTs and Camaros, Notchbacks are fox bodies, i just dont like the hatchbacks/verts... Also Im having a hard time finding a newer camaro with a V8 in my area thats not a 91 and older.
Finally, the best news of my life. The insurance company found the owner of the car to blame for the damages. His negligence with the brakes and knowingly let me drive the car so its on his head not mine.

Lol id have to rob a few banks to get a new camaro. BUT I took what you all and others are saying into consideration, im going to wait til august to get a car. After my birthday and several months of paychecks i should have a couple grand more to buy a Camaro/Mustang in better condition that needs maybe some paint and stuff. But come to find out the guy didnt have insurance so I had to pay for everthing in the long run.... I called him and told him the law says the Liability follows the car and that id pay the lady for the camry if he would give me his insurance info and pay me back later. He told me he took the coverage off the car to sell it.. SO hes letting OTHER people drive his car without insurance which is pretty damn illegal. When I asked him to help me out with the cost since hes liable and should have known the riskof driving the car without insurance... He told me to "pound sand" and not contact him again... so I was likewtf doesthat mean? I had my dad call him and hedidnt answer so my dad left a message and the guy hasnt called back kuz he was too much of a pussy. Now my dad (whos a cop) is getting Everett PD to serve him a ticket for about 1000 dollars. I was going to take him to small claims court, but my dad says the guy makes less money than i do so it wouldnt be worth it.. SO my dad said he n my step mom might beable to help me out in august get a car from a dealership, and i told him 4th gen Camaro V8 or New Edge GT and he said it was a possibility, but i am still looking for a Muscle car only im changing my price range. The higher the price the less thats wrong with it is what my dad says, so ive found a couple buddies who are experienced and own 2nd generation camaros, my uncle is a mechanic, and my grandpa used to race down in florida and portland, he had a 1967 Chevelle with a 350, so he knows his stuff.

I cant decide tho, all theCamaros and edges i find areeither6s or expensive, and i dont want to deal withEFI anymore...My grandpa took one look under the hood when i had my mustangand said he would never touch anything that had sooo many components and wires and all that crap and i agree, I want to beable to wake upsaturday morning and go work onthe car... I mean not fix it up persay but mod it, ya kno wake up, install thisor thaton the interior or under the hood. I meanits not just for bragging rights that I own a bad ass muscle car, its saying that I put together something by my own hand... I mean yeah i could say that for my mustang.. since it only had a cai lol.Plus I want to scare small children withascreaming exhaust system.... Little kids are around this area in hordes now that school is almost over... its like a friggin locus migration.. they go somewhere trash it and go somewhere else.. the gym is packed.. the popular grocery store hangouts are full of kids the lake is always busy so I cant go fishing... wow... I digress... I just want a muscle car for reasons of my own, not to impress others as much as myself with what i can do.

I still don't know why you don't want EFI. Carbs are just a brand new set of pains and potential problems. At least with EFI you can just plug your car into a computer and be told the problem.
xX98StallionXx
06-22-2007, 05:11 PM
Yeah, but with a carbbed engine a bunch of your friends and you can go into your garage one weekend and work on your car and get 100hp out of your engine yourself, with EFI you have to sit there and program this and unplugg rewire this... its just too confusing.. Believe me if i could get a 99-04 Mustang GT or1994-2003 Camaro5.7L I would and not worry about modding too much, I mean the camaro is already faster than hell... I wouldnt really need to mod em. For me tho muscle cars are just more appealing and with the right combination of components, interior/exterior dress and sound they are attention getters, with the late model mustang/camaro its like... wow there goes another GT... Its not a big deal. But when I see the 1971 Dodge Charger with its lime greenish color and its big blower that lives around me, it turns heads... Thats what i want lol.
