Well I'm not an expert, especially with Mustangs, but I think to get to that power level safely, you'll probably need rods, and pistons at least. I'm not sure ifFord motors needsleeves at that power level, I'm thinking not, but if money isn't a problem, might aswell at leastdo that too.You don't have to do cams to run anything safely, but they'll give you more power. As far as your tranny goes, no clue, I'm not a fan of boosting automatics. I suggest you research this a lot more before you just jump into it. 550 to the wheels is a lot, it's deffinatly attainable, but I read something in someones signature that I really liked, "if you have to ask how to get to 500whp, your not ready to be there".

From what I know about the S197s they can handle more HP than a 99-04 Mustang, because we can handle about 420hp without messing with internals and thats pushing it. Like the guy said if you want to run safe get a set of forged internals so you can run high boost and hp without blowing your motor. Kenne bell is $5,000+ and cams and longtubes will really help gain some HP with a supercharger. Your stock tranny can hold up for a while but will either be replace if going 550.

The bigger your type is in the question, the more power your car can handle!

This isn't really a street/strip question, but I'll help out anyway

You'll probably want to run bigger head studs to be safe, I don't think that's been mentioned yet. Forged pistons / heads, titanium valve springs and retainers, upgraded bearings can't hurt. Also do some research into your cooling system (radiator / Tstat) to see if they're up to that amount of power. Most importantly will be your fuel system. If you're maxing your fuel system to get 500+whp, you have a greater chance of detonation should you get some bad gas etc. Keeping your IDCs to around 75-80% is generally a good idea to keep an extra margin of safety. So shoot for overkill on your fuel delivery system (injectors, fuel rail, dual pumps or1 large one like an Aeromotive 1000) and make sure your headwork is done to match how much your engine will flow.

If you throw money at it, 500whp will come!
