I can get a deal at the local Discount Tire for (2) 295/35/18 Kumho MX tires for $440 as opposed to tire racks $480 because one of the tires is technically "used" but it was just installed on a car for a day...anyway does anyone have these??? how do you like them??? pros/cons???
thanks

I haven't run them personally, although they've been on my 'short list' a couple of times. They're perhaps more of a cornering/handling tire a step or so below autocrossDOT-legal "R-comp's" as opposed to being a straight-line oriented tire a step below drag radials.
Anyway, some reviews here, which I've sorted to show only the Ford-owner responses. But I'll note that they seem to be popular with Corvette owners and get mostly good reviews from them as well.
I still see cars with them at autocrosses even though they've been around for a while.

you know, as cheap as kumho's are, i know alot of people who like them, for the price. i havent run the MX, but i have the supra 712s for my DD when i take it to the track, and they were VERY inexpensive and serve their purpose nicely.
as for discount tire, i would have a VERY hard time paying 400 dollars for tires that they say were only used once...theyre a bunch of turds who dont know anything about anything. a while back, i got a flat on one of my trucks, and i needed to buy 4 new tires, but i had already ordered new tires...so i just wanted something to ride around on until the tires that i ordered arrived. they told me that they could sell me a "good used tire for 40 bucks". i told them to go ahead and do that. my wife picked the tire up while she was out, and when she got it home, i inspected it. there were about 4/32s left, and the tire was SO badly dry rotted, that the cracks in the tread would actually hold a screwdriver! so i called them and bitched, and the guy told me to bring it back so that he could look at it. he tried to tell me that there was nothing wrong with the tire! so i argued with him, and he eventually took the tire and mounted a different used tire, and then tried to charge me more!! while i was sitting there he was telling some poor clueless old guy that he had to buy 4 new tires for his crossfire, and for 4 pilot sports they quoted him 2000 dollars!!!! when the prick walked out of the office, i asked the old guy if he used the internet, and when he said yes, i told him to go to tirerack and search for his tires, as i was sure they were cheaper. also, the guy who was trying to con both of us had walked past my truck and looked at it, and came back in and said "you know, you should just buy 4 new tires, since the rest on there are destroyed". one of the tires was a spare, and was BRAND new.

discount tire for the loss.
im going to say that i have to disagree with you...idk about where you live but the discount here has been nothing but helpful...my mom bought a set of tires for her lexus and after 5k miles she dediced that they were too loud...she went back with all intentions of buying a new set and the guy told her that since they recommended her tire and she isnt happy that they would give her a brand new set free...sure enough they did mounted and balanced all 4 tires brand new...there have been several other instances like this considering my family has a total of 4-5 vehicles + a go kart that they helped us with a while back...the guy i was talking to ont he phone was really helpful and told me exactly how it is...i was looking at a more expensive tire and he is just trying to save me some money...sorry to hear about your bad encounter but maybe it was just the guy you were dealing with???

I have no experience with an individual Discount Tire store.
But experience with the mail-order operation was entirely satisfactory for my autocross wheel/tire order (Tire Rack does not carry Falken RT615's; otherwise I'd have probably got them there).

I've been running kumho's for about 3 yrs. now, and have never had any problems with them. I ran the 711's and 712's on my '99 T/A, and am currently running SPT's on my '02 GT. They'll soon be replaced by the MX's. For the price the performance can't be beat, and they outperform tires that can run you 3x's as much.
