Default 7.5 Ford Rear end Info

Basic Info on 7.5 Ford (Rear end in v6 mustangs)
Stock Gear Ratio: 2.73, 3.27
Splines: 28
Oval cover
10 Holes
Open Carrier

Ok everyone suggest gears as a mod, of course its a great one to suggest. By gears people mean the rear end gears. A Lower gear ratio will really help your acceleration, but hurt your top speed. Stock for the 7.5 Ford in the mustangs is 2.73(94-98) and 3.27(99-04), 28 splines. People. By the term "Lower gear ratio" people mean a 4:10 to 3.73, 4:10 is lower. The average gear ratio upgrades are 3.73 and 4:10. There are many different options tho such as 3.45, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56, 5.13. Anything above 4:10's are not street friendly. Going to a lower gear ratio will hurt your gas mileage, but nothing noticeable, it will also hurt your top speed, prolly 130 with 4:10s. The gains will be even greater. They really help out your acceleration and you will have the "Grin Factor" For a week. There is nothing wrong with buying used gears, just check for any chipped teeth or wear.

To help get your power to the wheels you should also invest in a posi unit. The most simple and easiest is a Ford T-Lock. T-Locks are stock in Mustang GT 8.8s. They have clutches inside that can wear out over time. T-Locks are recommended for cars with less Power. If you plan on using any kind of power adder, or going with allot of upgrades A Auburn or Det Truetrac is for you. A locker will do as the name implies, it locks both rear tires for best traction. There are two types, a Locker, and limited slip.

Gears are a very good modification that most people overlook. It doesn't add HP, but it gets you up and going.

A Girdle is recommended for higher powered cars, it gives that added support needed. It also adds to the fluid capacity so your fluids will not run as hot.

With this new found power you will also need to correct your speedometer. If you have a 94-98 all you need is a little plastic recalibrator, for 99-04 you will need a tuner.
A Gear and Locker Installed will run you
Gears(Used) $50
Gears(New) $175
Locker $250-$510
Installation $300

Add ons:
Girdle $140
Axle Shafts $110
Install kit $45-$80
Recalibrator or tuner

(ANY MODIFICATIONS TO THIS POST PLEASE MAKE, I WRITE TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE AND IF ITS WRONG, OR YOU HAVE SOMTHING TO ADD, PLEASE DO)

nice info. a good upgrade for a v6 would be a stock mach 1 rear end. they come with 3.55 gears and the 8.8 tlok. if you could find one for a good price it would be a nice upgrade
