View Full Version : Considering new wheels

Aftercurb-checking one of my wheels today, I realized that because my caris blacked out (black paint, tinted windows, black tailights), it will look killer will some 20's that are black with a chrome lip. If you do not know what that means, here is a preview of one: http://www.americanmuscle.com/20x85-verde-2005-kaos-wheel.html. If this seems like a good idea, let me know and please vote on the poll. This is a side view of my car (bear in mind my taillights are blacked out) so you can get a better idea of what it could look like with new rims.

Keep in mind the link to those rims are merely to show the black with chrome lip style. I'm not considering getting those specific ones. Im going to get 20x10's most likely

Maybe not the best photoshopping in the world, but this is what it would look like. I kind of like it, but would have to stay Saleen on principle. :)

I'm not big on black wheels on black cars. Just my opinion....throw black wheels on a black car, and you lose the wow factor....you're left with nothing that draws the viewers eye to the car for closer inspection. .

Jazz-Kitty, that looks like an Amish buggy --- makes me LOL every time I look at it.

Hey, just got an idea... if the Chineseautoimport business doesn't work out, maybe Mr. Saleen can design a line of horse-drawn carriages!

^+1 black wheels on black cars just don't do it for me. I would say chrome or polished.

This is just an idea, but how about a chrome face rim with a black lip? The only reason I suggest this is because more people are starting to put their body color on the lip of rims and then have either a chrome or black face on the car. I'll see if I can find the pic again, but there was a blue Murcielago with black rims (the face) and had a color matched blue lip which looked really good IMO, something different none the less.

That would only work for cars that arent black and white. But I agree that looks awesome bearing in mind it is a $300,000.00 exotic car that can pull that stuff off. Thanks for the picture though!

I dunno man, I think someone needs to try it out first... A nice white benz with white rims and some chrome accents on them sounds real nice.

But I think you should switch wheels anyway, black or chrome. I like the Saleen wheels but; most everyone has them, they don't have a lip, and if you have nice brakes they kinda block them. Almost any 5 spoke design would look sick imo.

Plus arent the Saleen rims like really damn heavy??!! I want to keep the rims at 20" but I want some deep dish rims at least for the rear. I also want me rear wheels to be at least 10" wide in the back for more traction and looks. Any ideas? If you find a nice set, let me know please!!

I'll look around and see what I can find. Check out the brand Axis, they make some cool 5 spoke design wheels that I was looking at getting.

The Saleen rims are heavy compared to smaller rims, but compared to other 20" chrome or whatever wheels I'm not sure how much heavier (possibly lighter) they are.

The Saleen rims (20x9) weigh 37.5 lbs each...so ill look around to compare weights as well but regardless if they are wider in the rear I will more than likely get more traction

If you haven't checked it out already, at www.tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com) you can view a variety of black rims on your car, even Saleens S281's arein their image database (and you can select color on the car as well).

Ok so for now I've decided to order a replica wheel and sell the damaged one. I may be looking into the after market wheel industry later on...

Here's a thought, can the bad rim be used as a spare tire? After all, if you get a flat in the rear, you DO NOT want to use differing diameter tires as hard on rear end.

measure the spare well and see (probably won't fit though)

I realize that both pics are of the same car, but like the lower look better. Can you tell me if it "usually" more silver or black in the light?

P.S. Please no more excessive URL addresses as this oversized post screen is a PITA (I realize that it is not on purpose but it sucks!) :)

Its a light gun metal but if the shadow is right they look dark.IMO gun metal is the best of both worlds. The gun metalrims lookgreat with my silver stickers and the contrast to the my brakes are perfect.

With your car you could run some pretty agressive offsets.

what about this. purchase 2 saleen 20 x 10s for the rear. then sell the other 9 inch wheel to offset the cost.
this may allow for an even larger footprint in the rear with the right tire.

06Saleen3V
06-13-2007, 10:54 PM
Funny you say that because I am already working on dong so. I'm thinking of selling my two rear wheels and purchasing 20x10 replicas for a better stance and for better traction and it wouldnt cost me anything

Do a search on that..big discussion on 20X10 tire sizes.

In short, there aren'tany options that give you the same sidewall height as the front tires. The Pirellis that come on the 10" Saleen rims from the factory aren't even as wide (treadwise) as the stock 9" rim/tire combo.

AFAIK, from what I have read, no company makes that perfect size to match up sidewall height wise with the front 20X9's.
