Default 2001 Mustang GT vs my 1997 LT1

i took down my first Mustang 2 times in a row!!!! pretty much i saw him on the road and i got up next to him went WOT for a second just so he could hear my longtube headers . he then followed me.

First time: We get to a stop light, i asked him what year and stuff. it was a 2001 stock GT manual convertible. light turns green and we both punch it. i put about 2.5 car lengths on him to about 60mph. he comes up next to me and says he is impressed. yayyy!

second time: a few blocks down the road is the on ramp to the highway its 2 lanes and is exactly a 1/4 mile long. its a four way stop sign intersection before the highway. so we both stop. i ask if hes ready. i say "go" we both spin all the way through first, we both chirp second. by the time i got into second i was a 1/2 car ahead and just easily put 3-4 more car lengths on him to about 90mph. i was actually suprised at how much he lost by. i thought it wouldve been closer. LT1 ftw!

this was my first kill in the T/A and im soo stoked it was a Mustang!!!!!!

my mods: Pacesetter longtube headers, 3" off road y- pipe, madz28 tune, maganflow muffler

nice runs...first kills are always the most memorable (til you make another kill)

How much are you putting down?

Nice kill man. That is EXACTLY what I would have imagined to happen. I think you would have edged him out even if you were stock. The LT1 cars also pull pretty good on the top end.

either auto or stick sorry to say you're not putting down 290 to the wheels. stock LT1 is 275bhp, so LT's may add a 20or so hp i'd believe, factor it in thru stick/auto to the rear wheels. but nice kill, i wanted a LT1 firebird for my first car but i never felt like spending $8k on one.

I think you are a bit off on that...
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=304275

250 ~255ish rwhp for an auto
260~265ish rwhp for an M6

That is right on track for ~300hp crank and when you consider the choked up crap GM gave the LT1 for intake and exhaust it's easy to get more power with little effort. Considering SS cars with optional exhaust and air filter setups frequently saw 10~15 more rwhp on the dynos I would say its a safe bet that a catback, headers and cai could get you at or above 290rwhp.

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303172

94Z-28 120,000 ,miles M6 3.42gears
Stock with CAI
275rwhp 317rwtq

CAI, Open cutout, PCMforless Tune Same day
285rwhp 319rwtq

Obviously some were stronger than others... but the LT1 has a bad wrap for no good reason.
