View Full Version : Older GT Owners.......Should I *act* my age?
SaddleUp 06-04-2007, 07:06 PM I was wondering what is the average age group of most new mustangs owners? Some dry a**es where I work think I should *switch* to a minivan and "act my age"......... :D
Just curious to what age groups of peeps we have in here......... Oh yeah.....I turn the big "3-0" this year ! :)
Shella ~
brewcity 06-04-2007, 07:10 PM 30 and they think you should be driving a minivan lol [&:]i say the right age to drive a stang is 16-199. im 31 btw
wthalliii 06-04-2007, 07:12 PM You're still wet behind the ears. :) I'm 60. Act my age? Screw that! I'm having the most fun I've had in a long time.
Eleanor06 06-04-2007, 07:13 PM Act your age ? I think people at your work are jealous! ha ha.Next time you leave work leave some black marks for them too. That will give'em something to talk about lol.

Hi Shella,
Don't you just love yourMustang? Wellthey all love it too and are just jealous of your willingness to let go and be who you are. Those old peoplejust want you to be like them and suffer as they do. They can't stand the fact that you are having funwhile driving and they are screwed and stuckdriving a boring box full of kids and pets instead of blasting along with the wind in their hair. I bet you like and even enjoy sex more often than they do too! Screw them! They made a choice and you made yours, enjoy your pony and enjoy life!
Cheers!
SaddleUp 06-04-2007, 07:16 PM "wet behind the ears........" Nice! I agree......I try to tell my *sophisticated* cohorts to loosen up, let their hair down.......Life is too short to go around conforming to everyone's *ideas* of proper behavior and presentation. I love my mustang and I like to have fun when I am in it..............I have always stuck out as *different*-----why change now??? [sm=devilangel.gif]
hammeron 06-04-2007, 07:17 PM sorry to hear it :D

GidyupGo 06-04-2007, 07:19 PM I'm 49 and I'm all about driving the speed limit and all. The first mod on our GT was a radar detector. I turned the corner the other day and got on it a little and shut down at 25 mph because that was the speed limit. A cop was there with someone else pulled over and he shook his finger at me. I had my window down and just said............."WHAT???"
05Retro 06-04-2007, 07:25 PM I'm 56 and have always had these types of cars in my blood. Istarted with my first new car a 69 Chevelle SS 396-375hp car. Now I have my 05 Mustang GT and feel 16 again everytime I get behind the wheel. I too get the smart remarks from a co-worker that doesn' t have a pot to piss in. To me it all comes down to jealousy but who cares because I'm the one having the FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SaddleUp 06-04-2007, 07:26 PM This is what the Mustang GT symbolizes tome.....when the world gets busy and crazy.....I can let go and have some fun..........and turn some heads while I am doing it! I am the only one that hasn't submitted themselves to the "Yukon, Tahoe, Expedition Club" at my job. Sure, I have a 4x4 (Nissan X-Terra) to get me around in the snow storms.....but summertime is for fun! Not to be all housed up...............Something about the Mustang just says "I am here to have fun"! Not all my co-workers are completely dry........but afraid to step out of the box? ABSOLUTELY!!!!! I even had one of the docs challenge me to a race in his Porsche 911.......I told him.....I might not win......but I will sure as hell look better in mine than you in yours ! Have fun and go chirp some gears for the girls!!!! Shella ~ (be proud of who you are............) :)
GT Bob 06-04-2007, 07:27 PM You are acting your age. Old enough to know better and still too young to care :D

ANBAUTO 06-04-2007, 07:27 PM Im 31 and its great drivin my car... you just need to switch it up and think outside the box! they are jelous, Here at the shop all of us like going outside and doin some burnouts and power slides when its safe outside! hahaha we here are car people. Fast cars all the way![sm=badbadbad.gif]
Vulcan 06-04-2007, 07:31 PM I'm 43 so... forget about it! As long as your having fun, that's all that really matters.
gtrichyo6 06-04-2007, 07:34 PM 50 and plan on not acting my age untill I die.
FrostByte 06-04-2007, 07:35 PM 47 & lovin every minute in my stang. Your only as old asyou feel.[8D]
SaddleUp 06-04-2007, 07:36 PM I have found my people..........LOVE YOU GUYS!!! ;)
chp2150 06-04-2007, 07:38 PM 53 orbits around the sun (I'm 53) and I'm having a blast. Between Steeda and B ama, I've got the car and performance I want. When I come to the office and go sideways into the parking lot, the folks in the office just shake their heads.....of course then again, I sign their paychecks!
spuddogg 06-04-2007, 07:38 PM You guys are gonna love this -
I'm out working this morning and I pull into a parking lot at a bank.
As I'm pulling in I notice a windveil blue GT sitting in a spot (my favorite color).
Then I see a little old lady, mebbe mid-70s, or older, walking that slow old people walk across the lot (that same walk I find myself doing more and more these days).
I do that quick trajectory calculation and I'm thinking, 'No way!'
Sure enough, she walks on up to the GT and hops in.
So I watch for a bit to see her pull out, thinking to myself, 'If that thing's a 5speed I think I'm gonna burst a blood vessel!'.
Well, it wasn't a 5speed, but it was one of the coolest sights I've seen in awhile, particularly when I saw her in the driver's seat with it all the way foward, up almost all the way to dash as she pulled out.
Kinda wish I'd talked to her; if I wasn't in my other vehicle I probably wouldn't have thought twice about pulling in next to her and asking if I could get a picture.
And yeah, I got gray hair (what's left of it) as well.;)
angcobra 06-04-2007, 07:40 PM if you even considered the mini van, then that is most likely what you need.
For me at 47, a car seat for my grandbaby fits real nice in the backseat of my 03 Cobra Vert.
cheftjpeck 06-04-2007, 07:56 PM truly, what does acting your age mean.....to me someone should only be AWARE of their age when playing sports and they tear a rotator cuff swinging a bat....or a woman should not necessaryily act her age with clothing yet rather be aware of their body type and look before putting on spandex snakeskin pants with a halter top...as far as acting your age with a car....there is no age limit...enjoy it and have fun.... oh..btw 39 going on 40...with the mindset of a 16 year old in my car...yet the awareness of a 39 yr old
Mikes_BLK_GT 06-04-2007, 07:59 PM 38 here havnt had this much fun in aslong as I can remember, hell I want itfaster :D
RollTide87 06-04-2007, 08:00 PM I'm 43 and my wife and I have a two year old son. He loves riding in "Daddy's Black Mustang!". Age is only a number. If you enjoy the Mustang and it works for your lifestyle.... who cares what co-workers or anyone else thinks. Life is too short. Have fun and enjoy the things that make you happy, including the Mustang.
Daniel60 06-04-2007, 08:09 PM I'm 46 acting like a fool and I'm not sure what I look like to others but who gives a rat's ass!;)

06steeda 06-04-2007, 09:27 PM I'm 48, and when I turn the key, I feel younger already, and when I stand on it, my wrinkles go away! Seriously, they should just get a life. Enjoy your toy!

maniacmikey 06-04-2007, 09:48 PM 40 here and my Dad is 66 he thought I was crazy for trading my pickup for it. He got aride in it with my wife while I was at work and they had a nice day together. He had a great time and doesn't think I am crazy anymore.

jwgroovin 06-04-2007, 11:58 PM I'm 49, go at 120mph at least once per week, hit the dragstrip 1-2 times per month during warmer weather, and street race my son in his '87 GT from light to light when no one is around. Also play some bad a$$ guitar in a classic rock band (well, it broke up and I'm looking again) and jam with my other son's band when they let me. Who needs drugs and booze when I got the need for speed and down and dirty blues!

Well, most of you guys are too young to remember, but back in my day Jan and Dean had a popular hit song about "the little old lady from Pasadena". It seems that in her garage, shekept a shiny new super stock Dodge. There was nobody meaner than the little old lady from Pasadena. She drove real fast and she drove real hard, she was the terror of Colorado Boulevard.

We won't "flog" you, but yeah...... I think you are! I think I am middle of the road at 30. I really appreciate the insight from those that have "been around the track" a few times more than myself. I have decided not only am I going to continue to drive and dress-up my Mustang......but I am going to get a supercharger for it too. A little Whipple action for their thoughts on my immaturity........ :) Vroom, vroom, Shella ~ ;)
Mikes_BLK_GT 06-05-2007, 01:09 PM only thing stopping me from the sc is funds, my better half thinks her kitchen is a bigger need, I tried to convince her otherwise but she just isnt having it [:@] Unfortunately for her I'll end up spending that much modding other things(over time) instead lol.
Margarita Girl 06-05-2007, 01:22 PM I act like a 39 year old who has money to spend!
popular hit song about "the little old lady from Pasadena"
I love songs that mention cars! We need a new thread:
"I got a Sixty-Nine Chevy with a three-ninety-six
Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor
She's waiting tonight down in the parking lot
Outside the Seven Eleven store"
Margarita Girl 06-05-2007, 01:44 PM Highjacked...
Whiskey Girl:
"Baby got a '69 mustang
four on the floor, and you ought to hear the pipes ring
I jump behind the wheel and it's away we go
Hey, I drive too fast, but she don't care
Blue bandana tied all up in her hair
Just sittin' there singin' every song on the radio"
and in case you don't know Fergie's GLAMOROUS:
"I still go to Taco Bell
Drivethrough, raw as Hell
I dont care, Im still real
No matter how many records I seal
After the show or after the grammys
I like to go cool out with the family
Sippin', reminscing on days when I had a Mustang"
Mudflap 06-05-2007, 01:44 PM Anyone who drives a minivan is suspect to me. My assumption is they are an idiot until they can prove otherwise, lol.[8D] I say, never grow up!:D
Red06 06-05-2007, 01:55 PM I'll be 45 later this month and never act my age. The only problem is the old body won't let me spend as much time lying on the concrete to work on the car as it used to. It doesn’t stop me however [sm=smiley20.gif]. This is my third Mustang BTW ('66 - High School car that I still have, '85 GT, '06 GT).
I never let the folks at work determine what I do outside of work. They think I'm nuts to modify a brand new (nearly brand new) car and take it to open track days whenever possible. I just smile back and say "maybe I am".
JDBullitt 06-05-2007, 03:04 PM Yeah, I had one of my so called "friends" at work ask me when I was going to grow out of driving Mustangs. Yet, he drives a 4wd SUV that will never be off road, that's really mature, huh?

But recently due to my age, wisdom caught up, and I had buy a economical car for work, a fargin Kia Rio. But at 43mpg I can't argue, and I can garrage my Stang now for weekend driving. I've only put on 23k miles in 9mo going to work. That car would've beenruined by 08.

I'm running into the same problem. I have 19k on my 06; and pretty soon ill be leaving my county college to go to a 4yr which is a good 30miles away.
fordfanboy 06-05-2007, 07:11 PM 38 and most don't know this but my nickname 'ChevyKiller' has nothing to do with my fast stang. It is the first Ford I have ever owned. My entire family is heavy into racing and bleed Chevy through and through.
My family builds NHRA funny cars and dragsters but won't even let my car into the shop - let alone turn a wrench on it...lol
I have been blackballed for this car and don't give a crap cause I honestly love the car. I have a 64' street legal Nova that pushes 1200 hp and is pretty quick and I have driven that car twice since 05 - that's how much I love this little Ford of mine.
You are never too old to do what you love... ;)
jackseth 06-05-2007, 07:18 PM I was told I should be driving something more age appropriate at 44. Itraded my 2004 Volvo S60R for a GT 5pd manual '07 Mustang. 'Why didn't you get a BMW 335 or a Lexus IS350?' a few have asked. I tell them 'Sssshhhhh, don't tell too many people, but this Mustang kicks a**!' 'I also get to save 14 to 20k!' The Mustang is a car for all ages. Cars reflect personality not age.
Test drove the BMW, Lexus, and Ford all on the same day. The BMW was the best riding, handling, the engine and gimiky paddle shifters were 2nd to Mustang V8 and 5spd manual. The Lexus was nice, a bit too cushy and isolated, it handles and rides better than the Mustang but again the manual V8 beats both in sound and responsivness. Oh yeah, the BMW was stickering for $47 and the Lexus was $42.
GidyupGo 06-05-2007, 09:12 PM I saw really old people in a Vette once. I was proud of em and gave them a thumbs up. The old white haired lady flipped me off.[:@]I think she thought I flipped them off. But that's OK. I was even more proud of her finnger at her age.
DjfunkmasterG 06-05-2007, 10:49 PM 36 here and I see no reason to conform to what others think. I come from a family of speed demons. My mother is 76 and has an 04 Grand Am GT. When i bought my 04 Stang GT she drove me to the dealer to pick it up, on the highway back she was doing 110, I kid you not. I looked down and I am doing 105 she is at least 5 car lengths ahead of me.
She is still a led foot, while in my old age I am beginning to slow down a bit.... Go figure.
I look at it like this. My first new car was a stang in the 80's, and 14 stangs later I see no reason to change the type of car i drive.

godfather_go3 06-06-2007, 12:19 AM I am 63 and on my third Mustang GT, a couple of weeks ago some young buck wanted to show off how fast his Caddy was, nice looking car to, after I left him behind he pulled up at the next light and seeing that I was not a kid, said, "Hey, I should be driving your car and you should be driving mine, I told him I was to young for a Caddy. I did not see the model of his car but it said northstar on the back as I let him leave the light first and I had to turn.

I'm 36 and one of my co-workers is on this forum too and he's a little older than me. The people I work with that are my age or older are very into cars and hot rodding them. One of my bosses has a Charger Daytona that I've been trying to get him to race me with and is working on a street rod with a very large motor. I guess I'm just lucky with my co-workers. They have come to expect to see me pass them on crew change though.

marguerite66 06-09-2007, 11:07 AM Sounds like the same people that ask when are you going to have children. i've always ignored people who make remarks about how you should live your life and they eventually shut up. If they know you don't care what they think and you're happy with your life, they got nothing to say. I say live every day like its your last because you never know. Don't try to make anyone else happy. Simply say, sorryI just don't like minivans. I'm 36 and everyone I work with thinks its great I drive a Mustang and they love talking to me about it. I even have Mustang posters on my cubicle walls ;)
06GT4RAD 06-09-2007, 04:01 PM Well I am 43 and have two kids although they are 19 and 16 respectively. I can assure you I would NEVER own a dam mini van. However if I had kids that required a car seat I also would not own a Mustang unless I also had a larger car for the family. My family car however was a truck. Sorry but I do not think car seats and Mustang's go together.

06GTGIRL 06-09-2007, 06:05 PM Hijacked post for a quick story!
That damn minivan reminds me of a story. We flew to Michigan for my son's biopsy in Jan. and took the shuttle bus to the rental car place. I had reserved a Dodge Charger or similar. I knew I wouldn't get a Charger, but I was hoping. We get there about 1:00 am and the rental guy says, "I am sorry, we are out of Dodge Chargers, we are going toUPGRADE you FREE to a caravan!" I looked at him and I saidthat is a minivan isn't it? and he said yes, and Ilooked to the guy and I said you have got to be out of your mind if you think a minivan is an upgrade! I said what else do you have. I had to pay more but I rented a chrysler 300 don't know if it was an M or not, maybe someone can tell me?It said Dodge Charger on the key chain. I won't ever rent with them again.

I will be renting a mustang next time. The biopsy went great. It is good to hear that your wife is doing well and i hope her scan comes back clean for her in August. My son doesn't get abiopsy for Cancer thank goodness. He had a heart transplant when he was 11 days old, so they do a biopsy through the groin into the heart and take a piece of all 4 chambers and test for rejection, they also do the dye in the coronary arteries to check for coronary artery disease. That sounds so stupid to read, I am glad he had a heart transplant and not cancer-but I hope you know what I mean. Raiden will be 7 in August and will celebrate his 7 year heart birthday in August also. Tell your wife I will be thinking about her in August and you will have to let me know how it goes. Annie

I chose a mustang because of the heritage and its symbolism. I saved up through high school and college and covered my 07gt (glad I waited), I have owned it for 2months now and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. My cars name is sasha btw.
In any case, you are as old as you allow yourself to be, on off days I am 50 and back to 23 every time I drive my car. Its like a time reset for me.
I have been looking at posibly picking up a mid 80's gt to give my baby some company and possibly build a track car.

I was asked by an "older" man, in the parking lot of the grocery store, if I were having a mid-life crisis? I told him I was too young for a mid-life crisis andno one is too old for a Mustang-he should try it. He then told me it was pretty.

Fun to drive is more important than many people are willing to admit. One of my criteria for car purchases involves being able to answer 'YES!" to the question of whether I expect to still enjoy driving [whatever car] one month after making the final payment.
I'll be 60 in about three months, and my wife will have turned 58 (shhhh!). Neither of us is ready to get anything withautomatic transmission, and I still drive exit ramps and down winding roads at least as enthusiastically as ever (and more briskly than most).

desslok40 08-02-2007, 01:11 AM 35 going on 50 (been married 12 yrs!!!) I act my age and drive responsibly for the most part, I prefer my sub ultra low insurance to screwing around on the road, the only annoyance, idiots at lights (driving anything from a Kia to a Ford F350) who always want to race from the light. Its fun to barely give it some gas and get ahead of them but it also eats up my gas. The younger me would of had mefloor it to teach them a lesson !!! My smoke and their tears, what a great combo !!!
Now if a sports car gets up to a light with me, its on, alot of vette's out here but mainly the vanilla kind, other day a Z06 pulled up, I gracefully hid behind my dark tinted windows. But 350Zs, Chargers, WRX-SI , what ever other crap comes down the pipe the 18 yr old comes out in me.

42 here, three boys...12, 14, 17. They're my ego boosters!! All their freinds want me to do the pick up and drop off thing at each other's houses so they can ride in the Mustang. Of course, I get the funny looks from their freinds mini-van driving parents. 17 year old is two months into Marine Corps boot camp....says he's gonna buy me a Whipple! That'd be like a fountain of youth!!

YES! Anyone else have this too? I love it when I pull up to a redlight and someone in a 2-story high Superduty starts revving up his engine and looking down at me like I am some little toy........I just roll my window up so I don't have to look at him!

Texotic 08-04-2007, 11:21 AM ^^^ i test drove a Z before i got my stang. i also really liked the G35 and GTO, butthey were a little too pricey. i can't imagine not having my stang...
aw3748 08-05-2007, 12:40 AM 19 here and just got my 07 mustang 2 weeks ago, gona be paying for it myself, but DAMN im loving every second of it!!!! Pretty good upgrade from a 96 caravan right?!!??
cmschlatt 08-05-2007, 02:31 AM dont have a gt but i just gota 2005 v6. my dad looooves driving it since its stick. hes 61, hasnt driven stick in years, but hasnt stalled it yet (unlike me):D
Valyndiir 08-07-2007, 12:08 PM I drove a Z for 2 years. All around the car is put together better than a Mustang and you certainly get bang for buck, but you can -barely- get power out of them without forced induction, and most other mods are insanely overpriced. Not to mention I think the Mustang looks much nicer, accelerates faster, gas mileage is surprisingly similar, it's about a billion times easier to work on, and I can mod it to fit my personality without dishing out too much cash.
onederful100 08-07-2007, 01:31 PM those comments are from people who don't drive a mustang. I'm 8 years older than you. and you know what I tell haters after I rev it to 3500 and dump the clutch then burn into second gear? I tell them, "that's why people drive mustangs!" then I listen for the sound they make when their jaws drop.
onederful100 08-07-2007, 01:37 PM there's nothing wrong with a minivan. but keep the mustang too. that way when the kids get older they can drive the minivan
toxdoc 08-07-2007, 11:53 PM I'm 59 years old. My first car was a 64 and a half mustang 289 with rochester 4bbl carb, 4 speed stick. I feel as though I've come full circle - act my age - you bet!! I have a lot more experience and ability to handle a muscle car than when I was in my 20's. Eat your hearts out !!! :-)
AzCheetah 08-08-2007, 05:19 AM Just registered to the forum - looks like a great place! Turn 57 next month and think I maybegin modding my 06 black/grey GT. Might even start driving it more - bought it new in Feb 06 and have just over 7k miles on it! Definitely my favorite of the 4 Mustangs I've owned since high school and reading this forum makes me aware of the potential the car really has.
I think I "act my age" - I also think the GT takes me back to the 60s.
Keep up the great threads!
bazguitarman 08-08-2007, 03:42 PM I`ve never understood why people place age limits on material possessions. I`m 37 going on 38 and getting ready to order a new GT. I`ve not gotten too much hassle from people so far. Although my wife thinks I am totally crazy for buying a brand new car and planning about $10K worth of immediate mods. She`s not giving me too much heat though, because I`m buying her a new car at the same time and we both still have fairly new cars to pass down to our boys.
In fact, that`s one of the good things about the new GT. It`s so small on the inside that neither of my kids will fit in the back seat. I know anytime I take it out I`ll probably be on my own and ready to have a little fun.

presto 08-08-2007, 05:26 PM I'm 31 with a 6 month old daughter, and shoehorning myself my wife and baby into the stang is fun. I worry a little more during the week about fuel mileage, but still don't care on the weekends!
Growing old is inevitable, but maturity is optional.;)

your wife sounds just like my mom did when my dad got his new car. he went out and got a new 2006 Vette Z51 last year and did over $7K in mods the first week he had it. she said she was ready to send him off to the asylum... i told her to leave him alone and let me drive:)

You're still wet behind the ears. :) I'm 60. Act my age? Screw that! I'm having the most fun I've had in a long time.
+1

Sounds like my dad used to be. Back in the day, he terrorized the SC coast line in a fuel injected split window coupe. Right around the Myrtle Beach area. I don`t know how many times my grandfather told me about the cops coming by their house to wait on my dad to come home. They couldn`t catch him, but they knew he would have to come home to eat because he spent all his money on that Corvette.
I guess I`m just the opposite though. He got more "responcible" as he grew up and I`m starting to act more like a "kid". Man`s gotta have some fun though.
