so this morning around an hour ago i was diving to campus so i could take my final. It was supposed to be my last day of school but on my way, I got in an accident. It was a 55 zone and I was going 50 because the car in front of me was and it was a no passing zone. I had about two car lengths between myself and him. Anyway, he floored his break pedal to the floor and when I saw his lights on I braked and I jus skidded. I tried to get around him on the shoulder because it was a very wide shoulder because cops usually sit there. I ALMOST got out of the way of hitting him. my left side light led the hit into his rear bumper. Everyone is alright, seatbelts were worn, but my 2000 Stang looks like absolute **** compared to his car. His rear bumper was just bent inward and my car, left light is there but it isnt there, grille is broken, hood is banged up and a little bent. I'll put up pics soon. I'm just wondering what people think the damage is going to be. The car is driveable, my insurance is going to have to cover the repairs of the other car and then I'm going to most likely take car of my repairs because my deductable isn't that much. I'm just wondering what poeple will think it's going to cost me to repair the front bumper, hood, get a replacement light, an then it'll have to get painted because idk where I can find parts pre-painted that match my color. I'm thinkin it'll be at least $1500 I have to spend. Just wondering what others think. Also, I got lucky and wasn't cited for anything, didn't get a ticket... got off free from the cops but car repairs are gonna kill me
if he was going 5 under the speed limit then shouldnt he have been cited for slowing traffic? and slamming on his breaks for no reason sounds like somebody break checking.

CarParts.com on ebay has some super cheap stuff. I'm gonna get my cobra bumper from them, it's around $300 shipped, much cheaper than pretty much anywhere else. They have hoods, headlights, fenders, and everything and you can probably get a discount on shipping if you order all your stuff.
go here: http://www.getcrashparts.com/default.asp this is by far the lowest place i have seen for body parts. i have ordered two fenders and front bumper from them in the past and everything turned out great. they only sell primered parts though (no paint). make sure you look at the discount price, not the retail price they list. the discount price is about half of retail. for example, the cobra bumper is $122 here...

Well **** those ducks... I would have run them over rather than cause an accident , thats what the drivers manual told me to do

Is the car frame damaged , bumpers are like a hundred on ebay lights are about 80 for the stock and fenders are like 120.. visit craigs list first and see if they have the parts you need

i dont think the car frame is damaged. well, i really hope its not. but heres the pictures i took with my cell when i got to my apartment. one more thing, i tried to check out the scene under the hood but the hood wouldnt open up. im a little worried about that. i did find a new hood, new front bumper, and new front light for around $400, but the hood and bumper come primed but need paint. anyway, yea, the pics...
also remember, i was going somewhere between 25-30 mph into the back corner of a solid, heap of metal oldsmobile that was almost completely stopped. i consider myself lucky that im safe and that there was only this amount of damage to my car because ive seen a lot worse at slower speeds than that.

You also need the header light panel. Its a plastic thing that hold the headlights, bumper and grill. Is your front bumper cracked, check the top where it bolts up .You might be able to reuse your bumper you might be able to take the scuff mark off with some chemical that they sell in autozone. The hood dosen't open because its not alined you may have to force it open.

Well then YOU were following to close. Doesnt matter why he slammed on his breaks, even if it was a "break check". You shouldn't be so close that you cant stop in time to avoid hitting him. That is the reason you should have 1 car length for every 10 mph in speed. You could have gotten a ticket for following to close. I learned this lesson the hard way also. Glad every one is ok.
hey, YOU werent there. I said i had about two car lengths, but on the police report after the cop looked where my tire marks started compared to where his started, he wrote down i had four car lengths between myself and him. thats why i didnt get a ticket. yes, wow, thats one less than i should of had. but based on the physical appearance of the accident, i wasnt following too close. i dont like bein close to the back of cars neway since i was in an accident with my friend last year. i tried to stop, i was paying attention. its a two lane road and ive seen people off to the side of the road with accidents the entire school year, i was being smart about it. i dont even like to drive with music playing and i put my phone on silent except for my parents. i dont like distractions when i drive. this was a freak accident. i cudnt help it that my car skidded. but id rather listen to the police report, someone who was actually there to look at the accident. i dont need a lecture. sry im bein an ass, but im quite pissed cause im gettin a lecture that ive heard from every1 when no1 was there to see what it was really like
heres some more pics of the bumper. reusing the bumper is a good idea beacuse its only scratches on the bumper, i was able to scratch a little bit off myself. but heres the damage to the front bumper, the few little cracks, hopefully theyre not to bad
That's no fun man. Update as soon as you get the hood off, since the antifreeze is mounted pretty close. At least u managed to swerve off a bit and glance it...
Luckily you dont live in florida we have the i think its called the no fault law. u hit someone in the back regardless whether its your fault or not u still get a ticket.
