dont be mad that you cant earn a reasonable income to buy a better car.
wow youre real cool man.... you must have an amazing income to afford your used GT mustang... more than half of the V6's on here are modded if not highly modded so almost every single one of us could have bought the same if not nicer car than you but we bought what we felt was the car for us
My grandfather told me to live by this statement..."Never let em' see you sweat" so when someone gives me crap bout my 6banger i tell em to shove it. don't let other peoples influence yours. Love what you drive and if you don't get something that you do. Everyone has their reasons on why they drive the car they drive. For me the v6 is everything and more than i expected...i love it
Guys, dont knock the GT. No offense, but it is 100% a better car, new to new, thats why the MSRP is so much more. Yes, I understand that people want lower insurance, and better gas mileage in a V6, which is extremely reasonable. However, you cant say that the v6 is better then a GT.
Last time I checked, I had about $60,000 in investments and $33,000 in the checking account. I could go buy a 2007 GT right now if I wanted to, and I had about $90,000 more when I was car shopping in January.
I bought a 6, cash, because a GT didn't feel that noticeably faster to me. The 6 is lighter and has a better weight balance, and a ton of room in the engine bay to install forced-induction goodies, which I'll be doing later in the summer.
If you're really thinking of trading in the PP for a GT, I'd suggest as an alternative just picking up a turbo kit and installing it. You'll be putting down far more power than stock or lightly-modified GTs, and for a fraction of the price -- while still paying less for insurance, and all GT aftermarket body parts bolt right on with no modification to speak of.

LL88, there are a few cars on here (rygen comes to mind) who could say that THEIR car is better than a GT all the way around. you should talk to him about the numbers he's throwing down. quite impressive. i think both vehicles have their perks....for example, the v6 is a little more nimble because of the decreased weight on the front end. nobody is trying to claim the v6 is better than the gt period. they're just saying that each car has benefits and that we are not inferior to people who decided on the gt.

Not saying that the V6 is better, it isn't but it is lighter, handles just as good or better in some instances, cheaper, less for insurance. It has its draw backs and is slower due to the missing 2 pistons and 90 less HP but there is no way the GT is 100% better car, that is a ridiclous statement.
Let's also not forget that with a decent tune, a CAI, and a GT-take-off muffler, people seem to be dynoing in the ~200whp range -- factoring in 15% driveline loss, that gives us around 235 crank horsepower compared to a stock GT's 300.
65 horses is nothing to sneeze at, but it's certainly closer than 90. But seriously, just grab a Powerhouse turbo kit. It'll cost far, far less than trading up to a GT, make more power, and give any guy in the next lane a hell of a surprise when that 6-banger blows their doors off!
And also, "That a GT?" "Nope, turbo 6" is definitely a lot more fun to answer people with.

That totally sounds like your hating on your own kind lol. Sure they did go a bit cheap on the design but they pretty much have to so they can keep the price down. If they made all of them with the same things they would be closer to the price of a GT and the only thing different would be the engine.

I've driven both cars, stock and with various configurations. The GT is a strong performer, I remember test driving it. As long as its a stang, thats all that matters. What gets me is statements like "I'm tired of getting crap for my six" or "the peer pressure at school is too much, I have to trade in for a V8". That second one, happened here awhile back, set a lot of people off. So no, everyone loves these cars and if you notice, congrats are always in order when someone gets a stang (regardless fo what it is).
Its the follow up comments that turn a one page thread into many pages like the examples above.

well you can trade your V6 in September for a GT, but then what happens in a few years when the bigger engine GT comes out? will you trade your GT for that GT? not to mention the Camaro will be out soon and they will have a bigger engine than the GT supposedly. there will always be a bigger fish. this reminds me of hearing the story about the Ferrari F430 owners giving the Ferrari 360 owners a hard time.
I heard that Dave at Expolrer Express has a good used GT for sale; he recently bought a V6 and put one of his X-Chargers in it and now doesn't want to drive the GT any more. Why? Because the V6 is faster, more nimble, more responsive, and more fun to drive.

I agree, Rygens car is kickass. But, I'm talking stock to stock, thats why i said "new to new". Obviously, with money, you can make the V6 faster then a GT, though much less reliable. Speed is not the only thing that determines whether a car is good or not. Lets go through the list: A GT has: -limited slip differential standard -90 more horsepower -Better handling/suspension -TCS/ABS standard -17" bullit wheels standard -Better transmission that doesn't whine when you drive -Front fogs standard
There is a reason why Ford made a mustang, and a 7,000 dollar more Mustang GT. I agree while his logic is not the best for why to trade in for an 8, if he is a real mustang enthusiast, who gives a rats ass? Maybe he loves the car so much that he wants to get the upgraded version. There both mustangs arent they? Its not like hes trading it in for a camaro...

As far as the "just supercharge it" debate. I respect your position. I haven't driven a supercharged Mustang, but I have had experienced with a modified 1971, 400 rwhp Corvette I used to own. I think it only weighed 3,100 lbs.
I got rid of it for a few reasons.
- I didn't do the modifications and whenever something broke I had to do a lot of research to fix it. The thing was nickle and diming me to death. If you're going to keep a vehicle for a long haul, then it's nice to be able to use stock parts. It was my experience that relability decreases with all of these modifications.
- It was wonderfully fast, but drivability was pretty lousy. It in the city was particularly harsh. It was very hard to drive at slow speed, push the accelerator just a little and you'd almost run into the car in front of you...that's fun for the weekend, but day-to-day it gets old.
- Resale value and insurance value is questionable once you go that far. You have to work to find someone that wants to buy a car that's been heavily modified like that. If you wreck it, then the insurance company is not going to replace all of those expensive goodies you had. You'll probably get bluebook for your V6 and those depreciate quickly.
- The last is subjective. It seems to me that build quality on the V8 is generally better than the V6 at least in past years.
There are pros and cons to modifying a car. Anyone can make any vehicle faster than your car in a straight line. Its just a question of money. That's the easy part. The hard part is maintaining drivability.

personally I think it's a good choice to want a more powerful car but IMO the 05-07 GTs are pieces of crap. They are nose heavy and just...well....heavy. Get an 03 cobra. i had an 07 black/black GT with all the packages, everything...got rid of it for a cobra then bought a second cobra because I liked it so much....dont waste ur money on the new GTs!!!

i too wanted the GT when i got my 6er but found a sixer with features and color that i wanted and was impressed how well the 4.0 pulled. so i ended up getting my 6er with some extra cash in my pockets. this is how i figure it: i too still want a V8 but if i am going to upgrade, why not take it a step futher and aim for the shelby cobra. so that is my future goal at this point. i'll keep modding my 6er and continue to enjoy it to the fullest until my financial situation allows me to take the leap. i seen a shelby cobra on the freeway a week ago and i started drooling. those things look sooo baddass on the road! can't wait!.......oh yeah, my 6er is still pulling chicks and collecting smiles so i guess i can patient on the shelby....hehe

I test drove a GT a little while ago to feel the difference. I wanted to know what I was missing. These were my observations:
The low end was actually useful. I feel as though I have to wait for my 6 to kick in. GT pulls right away, while 6 has this moment where your like "hello? you there? Oh, THERE we go" Even after a tune I still feel like that.
I love the LSD. I feel like I'm missing something without it.
Sound. Hands down my favorite part. I like when my little coupe sounds like a truck. I crave that sound. I know I'll never get it with my 6 though.
Most likely, when moneys better, things are more secure and I can afford it comfortably, I'll pass down the six to my lady and get myself a GT (maybe by then they'll have more power too :P )

I think its always natural to want to upgrade to the next best thing. Its human nature. You buy a house, and a couple years later you want a better house. You meet a girl, then you see hotter one and now you'd rather have her. It will always be that way. The truth is, $7500 more for a GT is very affordable over a 3 or 5 year loan. You just have to remember that vehicles are the worst investments that you can make as far as money goes. I love absolutely everything about the V6, and since I'm not a race car driver, I don't see the need for extra power (and extra gas!). I still get the "thumbs up" from all the guys and smiles and waves from the girlies. You gotta love any mustang!
