Hey guys!  My buddy finally got a new head unit for his Jeep and we are having some serious issues.  His jeep had the stock head unit (no cd or tape player) and had a sony x88 cd changer hooked up to it.  He bought a Clarion DXZ375MP cd player and the wiring harness from MOBILE accessories for a 1985 and up jeep.  We hooked up the HU like so
connected two yellows (one with 15A fuse labeled memory back up lead and one with 3A fuse labeled Bus Power lead) directly to battery
connected red wire(power lead) to ignition switch
connected black wire (ground) to back casing of HUwhich has a factory ground running to the chassis.
connected orange/white (illumination lead) to dimmer

the speaker connections are all hooked up correctly.  The stock radio fuse is 10A.

the first time we hooked it up, it didn't do anything.  we messed with the wiring and gave them better connections with caps and it powered on and did all functions EXCEPT put out sound.  So we screwed with some buttons and checked the wires, turned it on and it still wasn't putting out sound.  So, we started to disconnect all the cd changer stuff.  Now the HU does nothing again.  So we plugged the stock HU back in.  Nothing.  I checked the fuse and it looks fine.  I checked the fuses on the harness and they looked good too.  what wouldn't be allowing output of sound and ultimately killing power!??!

There are a couple wires we didn't hook up.  We didn't hook up a blue wire (auto antenna lead) since he doesn't have an auto antenna.  We didn't connect the Blue/white wire (amplifier turn on) because he doesn't have an amp.  We didn't connect the brown wire (phone mute lead) to anything because we didn't know exactly what to do with that.

Again, any help is greatly appreciated.  He is frustrated as all hell. could he have ordered the wrong harness?  Thanks guys for any help you can throw this way.  Sorry it is not a mustang question!

I am not aware of where you are supposed to connect that Bus lead wire. I would connect the yellow wires to thier correspondign terminals on the wiring adapter and then try it.

there isn't a corresponding lead.  but in the clarion instruction thing it says both should be connected directly to the battery.  What does the bus lead do?

I would then connect both of them to the yellow wire on the adapter.

Remember to check the car's radio fuse as well as the one on the wire going to the HU.

is it possible that there is an amp somewhere in the car that is now not connected or something due to the cd changer?
