I cross posted this on the tire forum but brought it here due to possible experience. Hope it's ok...

I was interested in purchasing a set of 97 SVT Cobra wheels. Nowhere on Tire Racks site does it say these are not street legal. On FordRacings site there is a warning.

I know California is picky about the air quality and though I don't currently live there, I do plan to return home with my little V6 in a couple of years. I never knew wheels could have an adverse effect!

Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

yeah?  I was gonna ask that same one.

I know you cant drive with slicks on, well at least in PA, cuz most of them are not DOT approved due to having no tread

if they are too wide or too skinny they can be illegal.

How? i drive around with skinnys on my fox, and 17.8 tread width. Look at spare tires too. Got the link? It might not be safe at certain speeds.

This is a silly question.  Of course they are legal.  (If they have tread obviously)

Wheels guys not tires.  I looked at the Ford Racing website, and every rim has a warning that they can not be purchased for a pollution controlled vehicle.  It doesnt really make any sense though..

They are worried about the wrong size wheels on a car...resulting in higher revs....creating more pollution. If you match the correct size tires to your wheels, you're fine. They are just covering their butts legally.

Generally everything in the FRPP catalog has that warning because their intent is to make and sell products only for race vehicles. It's their catch-all legallity and nothing more.
